How to Search the law?

Postby lentz1 » Tue Nov 08, 2016 5:45 pm

Sometimes I'm online looking for a definition of the law and the only tool I found was the law dictionary but sometimes the law is different from State to State. How do you search the law?

Example, this guy needs help, how do I search the law to help him?

"I have had my nephew since he was 3weeks old and his parents do absolutely nothing for him and he is almost 3 now. What do I need to do to get custody asap? "

Since family disputes tend to involve pro se litigants, many states publish research guides with links to important statutes and forms. Your local court might be able to direct you to those resources. They might also point you to pro bono legal services in your area.

You don't do anything for this person unless it involves referring him to an attorney.

You can't get legal advice here.
