LSAC& Degree GPA

Postby tony0486 » Wed May 27, 2015 1:31 pm

Greetings,

10 years ago I attended two community colleges, which I performed poorly while dealing with Depression amongst other things, after losing my mother. (I wasn't ready for school) I ended up dropping out twice, getting multiple WF's for the respective classes. I joined the Army shortly after dropping out, got my head together, and completed 9 years of service. During my time in the Army I took advantage of the college opportunities and managed to complete my BA with a 3.92. However, after personally calculating my GPA the way LSAC does it, I have a 3.0 culumative GPA. I've been studying dilligently for the LSAT and am consistently scoring 168 on the prep-tests. With all this in mind, should I bother in proceeding with attempting to get into Law School? I know ultimately I am the one who has to make the decision, but I guess I'm just asking for insight if you were in my shoes. Thanks for all the replies.

Kill the LSAT and you can still get into a couple of T14 schools with small scholarships or get a big scholarship at a strong regional in your ideal region. You want to get a bit higher than 168, but you're getting close. Don't give up or be satisfied yet.

I wouldn't give up hope. You have an upward grade trend, and more importantly, one of the strongest "soft" factors out there (military experience). Although a 170+ should be the minimum, you're only a few right answers away. Keep pushing.

The 10 years distance between the community schools and now are helpful, as is your upward trend. An addendum clarifying what happened with your mother and depression (so sorry to hear) will help alleviate these concerns. A 170+ will get you some great options; thank you for your service.
