Further explanation as to what median GPA means for LS scholarships Forum

Hello,

For scholarships are there any strict cutoffs on "median GPA" for scholarships?

If for instance Law School A has 3.68/165 as its GPA/:SAT medians....Would Candidate X with a 3.65/166 be considered for scholarships as being "below one median, above one median" ( In a strict sense yes, the applicant would be considered below one median, but for scholarship purposes I wasn't sure).....and receive less money than a 3.68/166 "at one median, above another" ?

Since LSAT scores a point or two off median makes a big difference for both admissions/scholarships, I didn't ask .....but I was curios as to wether or not having a slighlty ( .05 or less off ) below median has any impact on scholarship chances

yes unless they're predicting a change in median/are unlikely to drop based on an insignificant difference.

I haven't looked very closely, but it seemed like cornell gave out a ton of money to 3.7s this cycle, whereas I had a 3.65 and got kinda shorted. That's not conclusive, but that .05 certainly seems to make a difference to cornell. Understandable if they're targeting a 3.7 median.

So in other words a few decimal points do have a major scholarship impact?

Can* have major scholarship impact. In most cases a few hundredths probably dont make any difference at all.

Would it be worth taking a few additional courses cheaply at a community college during my last semester to get to UT's median ( 3.68)?

Or not worth it since these courses are not really needed for the degree?

From what I understand all classes before you complete your degree count towards your GPA, which can help or hurt a lot of people. If you haven't been awarded a degree then taking a basketweaving class at the local CC should definitely help, if not by a marginal amount.
