As a former USMC, I'm going to say join the chAir Force.

Same military benefits. I don't think most civilians care which branch you joined. Better quality of life.

Is this through JAG? Could you tell more about it?

Post 9/11 GI Bill:

Pays 100% of your tuition for a public university, up to $20k for private university. Yellow Ribbon Program (YRP), which most schools partake in to some degree, the VA will match dollar for dollar what the school contributes. That is, if the school's YRP is $5,000, the VA will contribute an additional $5,000, meaning that your tuition will be paid ~$30,0000 ($20k + 5k from school + 5k from VA). Varies from school to school.

Also get a monthly stipend every month you're in school, the amount depends on where you live. In NYC, I got around $2,900 when I started school, which increased to about $3,200 per month by the time I graduated. Only applies to months you're enrolled in school.

Also get like $750 per year for books.

That is awesome. I've been fascinated by the idea of giving service to this country, but I've always been afraid of it turning into my career or forcing me to get too late of a start on another career.

Do you mind answering some questions? :

What is the minimum service requirement to get GI bill?

What is the minimum for heli pilots?

10 years would be a tough decision for flying jets, do you have any other suggestions for service?

and finally, I go to a top 20 university and carry a 3.94 there(economics and political science). would i be able to get a pilot slot or something similarly competitive(given I am not fat and out of shape)?

do STEM majors get preference?

Sorry for the length, appreciate it! :D

The absolute minimum is 90 days active duty service, but you'll only get 40% of the benefits. Generally, unless you're medically discharged, or absent some other extenuating circumstance, you'll be contractually obligated to serve much longer than that.

To get 100% benefits, you'll need 36 months of active duty service.

I'm not sure what you mean by other suggestions for service.

I don't know the answers to most of your questions because I was USMC Division (ground forces, as opposed to air wing). I don't think STEM majors get an automatic preference. There's a veterans thread on these forums and someone may be able to answer your questions.
