Not even close.

OP, cats are incredibly easy to take care of. The only difficulty, as others have mentioned, is that you need to find a pet-friendly building each time you move, so that's something to think about cat friends.

Get a cougar if your state allows it.

I'm pretty sure a cat can survive with zero attention for at least a week. If you're looking for a low maintenance pet, get a fish.
I would not recommend a fish. I have had a cat, a dog and fish. In one aspect, I think fish are the most responsibility, because you have to be entirely proactive in taking care of them. A cat is a good balance.
Dog: Tons of effort and reminds you of everything it needs from you.
Cat: Little effort and reminds you of everything it needs from you.
Fish: Smallest effort, but dies if you forget about it, possibly without you realizing for a while.
((I am a dog person.))

Well, I (and many, many others) managed all of law school with not one but TWO cats AND a job AND a human child!!

So yeah. I think you can manage a cat. If not, you probably need to figure some shit out before you try law school. Or life.

With multiple cats the worry is that you're just a sad and weird human being, not that you can't handle taking car of these stupid animals.

Having a pair of kittens (littermates) made 1L less awful than it would've been otherwise. It was so, so nice to have two fuzzy people to come home to who were excited to see me. And to have study breaks where I could just cuddle and snuggle the kitties. And when I needed them to leave me alone, I just locked them out of my room - we had a large living room and they were happy to entertain each other. They are so worth the time and money it takes to take care of them, because they give back all kinds of love and support which you'll definitely need as a 1L, or as a human being.

Did this question really require two pages?

Cats are not worth it ever and will only make 1L worse.

You know what they call cats? Chicken of the railway yard.
