Any Biglaw in Southern and Central States? Forum

What about in the South and Central U.S. states?

Any pockets of biglaw there? ...Also, when it comes to the mid-West, where outside of Chicago would biglaw exist?

Mpls is mostly 110-140

im guessing its the same for Milwaukee, Des Moines, Kansas city, and similar cities.

Texas is the best cause its 160 + super cheap COL. I want it SOOOOO bad. You would be living like a king... er at least when you werent slaving away.

Also, keep in mind that 110-140k in mpls is equivalent to ~140-185k+ in cities like Boston and DC and 220k+ in areas of NYC (cost of living comparison). It may seem like an undercut to get a biglaw job in mpls but in reality you'll live much more comfortable (and with more savings) at 120k there than at 160k in many of the east/west coast biglaw hubs. Although there are far fewer biglaw jobs in mpls than many other east/west coast big cities.

Look at nalp and search by the city you're interested in. "Biglaw" exists in the South and in the Midwest, which is what I'm guessing you mean by "central," but it's not going to be compensated at the same rate that you'd get in New York. But it honestly doesn't matter because of the lower COL.

Most major cities have at least a few big law firms (unless you use the ridiculous definition that they have to pay $160,000). Dallas and Houston obviously. But also Atlanta, Denver, etc.

As somewhat of a side note, the best definition of big law is probably firms that follow the summer associate hiring model, assuming size, pay, and practice areas are reasonably comparable.
