Visiting while waitlisted (Cornell)

Post by jasonredranger » Wed Jun 05, 2013 9:59 pm

I'm hoping hard for a shot at Cornell next cycle, as it's my top choice - but with a 167 ~3.7 there's a strong chance I'll be waitlisted. Would visiting Ithaca while on the waitlist do anything to help admissions, considering it's in the middle of nowhere?... Or is that just wishful thinking?

Can't hurt to stop by and talk to admissions, but I wouldn't bet on it making the difference.

If you're already EDing to Cornell, the "more likely to attend" boost means nothing, since you're locked in anyway. If you're RDing... consider EDing.

EDIT> Especially because you're not going to get jack in scholarship money there.

Basically, don't visit until ASW.

I thought Cornell only had an EA program...

And what do you mean by "ASW?"

Cornell doesn't offer Binding Early Decision. Just an early action program.

This.

Admitted Students Weekend.

I think he meant you're probably going to get in, so you don't have to worry about this. But yeah, visiting couldn't hurt if you do get put on reserve.

I apologize, I thought Cornell had an ED (seems dumb for them not to?).

Maybe if you get deferred from EA then? I dunno, I just don't see it as being incredibly worthwhile to visit the campus before you get admitted.
