Life/ work experience and its impact on law school admission

Postby LateBloomer81 » Wed Mar 06, 2013 6:09 am

I have run a successful real estate business in Manhattan for the last 9 years, I've been to court, been sued, dealt with a fire, a hurricane, horrible tenants, and worse contractors. I'm 32, have a family, cared for my ailing elderly father (I don't want to feel like I am using my father's memory to get into law school). Will all this count in my favor? Or do they want to hear that you worked for a senator?

Hands on real world work experience is a plus.

But nothing matters more or even comes close to mattering as much as GPA/LSAT.

That experience will be much more helpful for your legal job hunt.

Write a compelling personal statement describing all this, and you'll be an outstanding candidate relative to other people with your numbers. But without knowing what your numbers are, it's difficult to say what schools you would snag.
