Re: Median LSAT @ Your UG
Don't have time to find it, but Spivey answered this question in his thread if you care to look. If I remember correctly, they use it to judge how intelligent your school is (you will note that in general, the better the school, the higher average) and then weigh that against your gpa to see how "impressive" your gpa is (i.e., 3.7 at a school w/ a 167 average is better than a 3.7 at a 150). Does this really effect their decision? Not really, its seen as pretty marginal, given the importance of a soft. Thats how I remember him answering it anyway, could be a bit off- you can go back and find his exact words if you want.So do your numbers in relation to your school's numbers mean anything during the application process? Does it look good if your numbers are stellar and your school sucks? Will they see you went to a crappy school and think less of your application? Do they not care in the slightest?
But pretty much yeah, they don't care in the slightest.

Re: Median LSAT @ Your UG
As you said, I doubt they care at all but if they did, I don't think they'd use the LSAT median to determine how "impressive" your GPA is as you've made it out to be: they'd just use the median GPA. 3.61 at Brown would not be impressive in this case.jetsfan1 wrote:Don't have time to find it, but Spivey answered this question in his thread if you care to look. Re: Median LSAT @ Your UG
If schools actually care about your UG's median LSAT when evaluating the merit of your application, then they would almost certainly take into account its median GPA as well (looking at you, Brown). However, I can't imagine this holding more weight than perhaps a minor soft. Which means it matters little, if at all.

The median UGPA on the LSAC report is just the median UGPA of LS applicants right? I've been wanting to find out my UG's median GPA for a while but that's apparently not information that is released.

I guess. Not that it matters but it's always seemed to be more like this -Shmoopy wrote:we always joked that it was Cornell, but you're right, it is Brown. Brown = bottom ivy?John_rizzy_rawls wrote:Brown.

This doesn't show the median uGPA but shows grade inflation and average GPA for quite a few undergraduate institutions (at the bottom of the page). But the data is quite old, with the more recent being around 2008. Heh, I keep giving you old linksCrowing wrote:The median UGPA on the LSAC report is just the median UGPA of LS applicants right? Brown's average uGPA in 2007: 3.61

Cornell is def the bottom ivy. It's the only one that isn't post-colonial too. It's like a fake ivy.John_rizzy_rawls wrote:I guess. People are dumb. They think Cornell sounds fancier than Brown and Penn.Crowing wrote:Cornell is def the bottom ivy. It's the only one that isn't post-colonial too. It's like a fake ivy.

Re: Median LSAT @ Your UG
To be clear, they would most likely use the LCM on the LSAC Report for a school they have very little experience with or knowledge of, to gain some intelligence on that school. When I first started admissions I had never heard of Transylvania University in Lexington KY and the schools median LSAT was noteworthy such that we started recruiting there.Ave wrote:As you said, I doubt they care at all but if they did, I don't think they'd use the LSAT median to determine how "impressive" your GPA is as you've made it out to be: they'd just use the median GPA. 3.61 at Brown would not be impressive in this case.jetsfan1 wrote:Don't have time to find it, but Spivey answered this question in his thread if you care to look. In the big picture of admissions, I think everyone is correct that this is a pretty minor statistic. At schools where there are faculty admissions committees, though, this might come into play a bit more.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
