I like the last comment, because that person does deserve to go to Cooley.

Most likely the socio-ecomonic group that person is from (and that person himself) is not aware of the LS situation in the nation. Doesn't mean that person deserves what's coming.. If I were to post such status on my fb I'd probably get similar comments, although fewer likes (don't have many friends, )

Did you tell them to run away as fast as they can yet?

Leave it be. I have a friend that goes to Quinnipaic and loves it there, but I have a feeling that sentiment will change very soon.

When I was getting ready to apply to law school it took me about 5 seconds of googling to find this website and get the info I needed to make a proper decision. That kid has facebook, so he has an internet connection, so he has google. Therefore, if he can't be bothered to do the slightest amount of research he deserves what is coming. If he has deluded himself into thinking he is a special snowflake, he deserves it. It has nothing to do with socio-economic groupings but rather the common sense idea that if you are about to commit three years and tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars you should do some research.

People naturally assume that if you go to law school and you work hard you'll be fine. It's incomprehensible to some that we have a system where law students pay 100-200k for degrees that have a 50% chance of being worthless.

In this situation if you don't know the person well, you can send them the LST link and just say "Hey I'm applying too and this is what I've been using to compare schools, I think you'll find it useful!" Try to be positive or they'll just ignore you - let them numbers speak for themselves.

If they still don't listen, well that's on them.

If you don't know them well, absolutely do not send them the LST link. That's reserved for someone who's a good friend.

Kids attending Kooley these days may deserve what they get, but the hapless souls who end up paying their loan bills really don't. So do your civic duty and make fun of him.

Almost the exact same thing happened to one of my fb friends last application cycle. Not Cooley, but one that's just as bad. He's more of an acquaintance (good friend of my good friend), so I just gave my friend the lowdown on lawl school and told him he might want to pass that info along to this other guy.

Natural selection at its finest. If your acquaintance is stupid enough to take a 100k+ plunge without doing 5 minutes of research then the world is probably better off with him learning to not be a dumbass the hard way.

TL;DR Cooley ranks itself 2nd best law school in the nation, next to Harvard of course..

Well, why don't you tell us why it's wrong?

What if the lad received a full scholarship, or wants to practice in the area right near Cooley?

The top 1% at Cooley, I'd imagine, probably does rather well for themselves.

I'm not seeing the decision as irreconcilable career hara-kiri, as many seem to think that it is. Can anyone give substantial reasons as to why he or she believes, on the basis of the given information, that it is?

For the record, a statistic that states "Cooley: 30% employment rate!", even if true, won't clear anything up.

I would expect someone who does not have the answer to my question, and who is offended by his or her own lack of knowledge, to respond in that way.

Unprofessional.

You're implying that you don't imagine the bottom 99% does very well. That'd the problem. OP's friend has a really good chance of being in that 99% and a tiny chance of being in the top 1%.

And if they have a full scholarship to Cooley, they certainly have very good scholarship offers to other schools in the region that places much much better.

Why is this complicated at all for you?
