LW citation question

Postby Venom » Sun Oct 07, 2012 2:12 pm

In memo citations, is it improper to cite to portions of the case that state the facts? Are we only suppose to cite to the court's holding/reasoning?

If you are referencing the case, you cite the case.

There is nothing wrong with citing any portion of an opinion. And yes, you should cite the facts. Just don't ever cite west law headnotes/summary or the syllabus in SCOTUS cases.
