Should I Quit My Job For C&F Issues?

Hey folks,

I've been working at a golf course the last few months to pass the time before I leave for law school, and an uncomfortable situation has come about. A new guy has been opening the pro shop in the mornings, and is making some serious miscalculations when he is making change at the register, so when I close in the evenings the register is either missing a pretty significant amount of money or otherwise has about a hundred dollars too much. Its his honest mistake, and my superviser knows that its just the new guy's incompetence, but I'm afraid it might not reflect back on me in the best way. Should I just go ahead and quit to avoid the C&F issues when I'm trying to get admitted to the bar, or am I overthinking things? I really don't need someone thinking I'm stealing at my shitty job...

thanks guys.

Also, if I quit I might actually get a couple weeks of vacation before 1L.... Starting to look pretty nice now that I think about it.

If you're doing nothing wrong, and your supervisor is aware of the issue then it shouldn't pose a problem. Sucks for the kid whose to inept to be a cashier though

Unless you are actually stealing stuff you are WAY over thinking this.... On the flip side, a few weeks off wouldn't be a bad thing.....

Hard to believe that someone is unable to make the correct change on a routine basis. If you don't need the job, then why risk being suspected of theft ?

If you dont need the job, quit for your own sanity. Rest up before the grind of your life.

Yeah I honestly don't know how the kid is ending up so far off on a consistent basis. And I don't think he's stealing because the till is just as likely to be $100 over as it is to be under. But if the corporation that owns our course decides that somebody needs to be fired for stealing, my name is on the closing receipts, so that can't be good.

Literally any outcome from lawl school would be better than this God forsaken job.

How do you go "over" the amount? Skim from the change owed to a costumer?

The prices for golf are even dollar amounts after tax, so after a couple days you start to remember the prices based on the type of membership a person has. My suspicion is that when he gets rushed he tells people the price and takes their cash without ringing it up, and later when he realizes he hasn't checked in a few golfers he took cash from, he goes ahead and checks in however many he thinks he missed, and ends up doing the wrong number. If he forgets to check in a couple people, that's a hundred bucks easy. It's a busy course, so I could understand doing it that way if you can remember how many customers you miss.... but I'm starting to think this kid is just ballparking it.

Make him count his register before he leaves.

That's actually a really good idea. I don't know why that hadn't occured to me....
