Top Law Schools

I've been lurking for a little bit and I often see people saying things like "well my parents are paying my COL so that doesn't matter." Or even that their parents are paying for their entire law school cost of attendance.

I can't help but be incredibly jealous. My parents paid for my undergrad education and I am really grateful and appreciative of that.

My parents are also of the belief that by the time grad school rolls around, it should be up to the student to pay for his/her education, not the parents. So they're not helping me at all with law school costs.

I just wonder how common it is for people to get helped out by their parents like this.

It's not very common, but there are some people whose parents are paying a lot of their costs. What is more common is someone who still has daddies credit card or something like that.

My parents see it as an investment. Nursing homes are expensive.

It seems to be incredibly common at ND; can't speak for other places.

I cannot say how lucky I am - my parents said they'll take care of law school if I get in. They're actually ok with paying sticker if I get into a higher ranked school, although it'd be nice to get some scholarship money. They want all of us kids to not have any debt after school so that we can start saving for downpayments on homes. My goal is to be able to do the same with my kids.

I worked before school and am paying all of my official costs, but I do have to admit that I sometimes need a bailout from the Bank of Dad.

Loans don't necessarily do a great job of covering the gaps, e.g. the part of May rent you inevitably need to pay between when school gets out and when your sublessee shows up for the summer.

i think most people, like myself, are going it alone. solidarity and boot straps and all that stuff

When I asked my dad to borrow $500 he just sent me a grayhound ticket to North Dakota. "Go West Young Man."

My parents will be paying for some/most of my COL. The rest is on me.

My parents are helping. Between the scholly and parents assistance, I should finish law school with no debt. I am very fortunate.

I really couldn't tell you about a lot of my classmates. Its really hard to tell and no one really talks about it. Everyone talks about debt as though we'll all have it, but some people seem a lot less strapped than myself (I'm going it alone, except for food and housing over winter breaks

I'm getting a little help from my parents. They paid my deposit and will probably help me out with groceries and some misc costs.

My mom paid for my undergraduate education so I consider myself lucky and spoiled already, though.

My parents are helping out with the little things- furniture when I get there, part of my rent, moving costs. I didn't ask them to and would never have expected it. I think what irks me are the people more than willing to waste their parents money on sticker at a bad school over spending their own time retaking, or the people who act as if monetary help from their parents is a god given right. I'm enormously grateful to my parents for helping out, but if at any point their finances prohibit their help, I wouldn't expect it to continue. At this point in life, it's a gift, not an expectation.

My Dad died but he left me money for my education, so I guess he is paying for almost all of it.
