0L- how to write to a lawyer for future networking?

So right now I'm a 0L and about to go to an out-of-state law school. I wish I can find my way back to my area (only 3 hours driving from my law school though) after graduation and I searched for some law firms in my area that I'm interested in. One recruiting partner at a law firm is an alum of my undergrad school and I would love to talk to him about career development, life as a lawyer and other stuff. If I send an email to him, what should write about? Should I tell him that I want to visit his firm or just general chatting about my undergrad? Any advice would be great or tell me about your own experience :D

I don't think you really need to write anything more than introducing youself, how you are connected, and your interests in the firm.

When I was a sophomore in college I wanted to live in LA for the summer and do a legal internship (I'm from the East Coast and had no connections in CA). I literally found a list of law firms and attorneys and sent generic e-mails to them. Imagine my surprise when I received an e-mail back from an attorney in LA that worked on the backlot of Universal Studios... needless to say, my summer was pretty sweet. In my opinion, most people are very open and willing to speak about their careers and love to offer advice/guidance. A little bit of moxie can open a lot of doors.
