Suggested Timeline for Applying Fall 2013?

I'm aiming to begin law school in Fall 2013. I am taking the LSAT in June and will finish my undergraduate in December 2012.

What's a suggested timeline for getting everything in order such as letters of rec., personal statement, etc. and if I want to start in Fall '13, when should I begin applying?

Right now I am focused on the LSAT before everything else, but it still helps to get a general idea of when I should have it all done by.

And what should I try and do with the 9 months in between UG and 1L? I already work for a attorney who practices in the securities area which I assume is good experience and I could just switch to working for him full-time, but I'm wondering if I did something like teaching English in a foreign country or going abroad and volunteering would look better on my application.

I'm going to ask for recs this Spring. supposedly the LSAC will put them in your file as soon as they get them and keep them there. That way I know that when I apply in the fall the recs will be ready to go and everything that is not in my hands is already done. I would recommend this since I've read horror stories about professors who were delinquent in sending them or about the LSAC taking forever to process

- Take LSAT in June.
- Get letters of recommendation sometime in the spring or summer
- Write personal statement during summer.
- If needed, retake Sept/Oct 2012. Apply immediately after you get your scores.
- If retake is not needed, apply Sept 2012.

It doesn't really matter what you do before 1L. If you want, you can derp around. If you want to pick up some extra cash, you can get a job.

None of that stuff is going to make much difference on your application because law school is largely a numbers games. Further, you will have graduated after you submitted applications, so it's not even relevant here.

Ask for LORs as early as right now, not later than June. Give your profs time--and give them a deadline in August. There is no harm in having them on file earlier. I asked for some over a year in advance. Start working on your personal statement whenever you have the time. Go through many drafts, many ideas. Get feedback from others. Sometimes it can take several tries before you hit on one that really works. If you want to start in Fall '13, get your apps in order to apply Sept 1/15 depending on when the apps open.

Thanks, I am going to start contacting my prospective LOR writers this week. I am already counting on a LOR from my employer, he has told me before that his recommendation got someone with a below 3.0 GPA and an LSAT in the mid-140s into one of the TTT in my state, although I won't let that cause me to slack on my academics.

I am going to ask one of my former professors for another LOR. How do you usually approach this though? I haven't seen or talked to any of the professors that I am considering asking in at least a year and is it weird to just come out of the blue and ask for a letter? My UG professor in argumentation (who happens to be a J.D.) though did tell all of his students on the last day of class that if they ever needed a LOR, he would be more than happen to provide.
