Law School Timeline?

Can anyone give me a quick rundown on what a decent timeline for law school should look like? Basically just a rough idea of which semester to start looking for 1L internships, or when it would be wise to start polishing my resume or mass mailing 2L year, or when you should panic if you haven't had a call back. I'd love something to print out to put on my wall, just to know in November during that 10th hour of studying that I'm not forgetting some outside the lines requirement deadline.

(pre-1L networking advice welcome as well!!)

Thanks so much in advance, and really sorry for any typos: only have my phone at the moment!

Pre-law school - Get started on a resume (look at samples from your future school or the web in general) and generic cover letter. Other than that, have fun.

Mid-August = Orientation.

Mid-Late August = Classes start.

October or so = midterms (most classes don't have these)

December 1 (Might be Nov. 30) = Career office can work with you for job search.

Early-Mid December = Finals

December through March = 1L summer job search (some land jobs after March but it gets stressful and many good ones are gone).

Sweet! This is exactly what I was looking for- can anyone chime in as far as 2L and 3L years?

You can start meeting with career services on Nov. 1. You can start applying to jobs on Dec. 1.

This is only for nalp employers. You can apply to non-biglaw jobs before you even start school.

Summer: Work up a big resume with everything you've ever done on it. Don't worry too much about format. You're just making the buffet from which you'll pick things off later. Also, start researching employers if you want to apply to firms. You won't have time to do this properly in November. Write a generic cover letter and a collection of employer-specific paragraphs that you can drop into the cover letter.

September-October 30: Smoke weed every day.

November 1: Get appt with career counselor, refine cover letter and resume to add the pointless stuff you've done since starting law school and get it down to one page. Prepare mail merge

December 1: e-mail bomb firms, judges, etc.

January-February: Spring OCI

March: Get rejections, look into public interest, gov/judicial internships, RA positions, summer classes
