Top Law Schools

I am currently halfway through my Masters of Public Health program and trying to decide what to do after I graduate next year (May). I have been going back and forth between law (health and/or corporate) or healthcare administration. I truly can't decide as I feel I am interested in both fields. Furthermore, while I have these two options, there aren't any guarantees, and I'm scared of pursuing an option that may lead to a dead end. I can control how much I study for the LSAT and my personal statement, but there is still some uncertainty about whether I will really like the legal field. I feel like you can't completely know until you are immersed in it. In terms of healthcare administration, I don't have a job offer, but it seems like I would be able to get a job within an organization after I graduate (based on feedback from an internship that I did). What factors should I consider in trying to reach a decision? Does anyone have any suggestions?

In my experience, the people who tend to struggle in law school are people who don't have a real passion for being a lawyer. Law school was a very, very different grind than other postgraduate courses I took. If you're not really motivated to compete day-in and day-out, it's very difficult to excel and very easy to slide into the median (or worse). And ITA, if you don't want to be middle of the pack.

Given your relative ambivalence toward law school, I'd put it off. Go out and spend a few years in healthcare - you can always come back to law school later, and your experience in the professional world will be looked at as a positive by legal employers.

I definitely would consider spending a few years in healthcare administration for a few years, but I feel that as I get older, I would be less willing to go through the grind of law school and becoming a lawyer. I am definitely up for it now. I am in my mid-20s and do want to start a family by my mid-30s and I just don't see that happening if I delay law school for a few more years. I've talked with lawyers and read a lot of threads here, but is law school/being a lawyer what you expected it to be?

I finished my MPH last May and am about to start law school. Did you have to take a health law course? Did you like it at all? Don't go to law school if you don't want to be a lawyer, and you don't need formal legal training to be a good administrator in health care.

Unfortunately, the health law classes aren't offered every year at the only law school in my state. I am specializing in Health Policy and Administration, but I don't think there is much similarity. Target - what made you decide to go from a MPH to law?

FWIW I agree a lot with the overall advice on this thread so far. That is, if the admin job were available, working there for a couple of years would give you time to study to rock the LSAT and relevant WE that could make you a much stronger law school applicant if that is what you ultimately choose to do.
