Book stands?
Not to sound like a crazy 0L gunner, but I am trying to think of things that might be useful to have as a law student and I thought a book stand might be one of them. Do either of these look like they could be useful to people:

Anyone use any others that they care to recommend? Many thanks in advance!

Uhhh, well "gunner" wasn't the first word that came to my mind(the acronym "wtf" was). You really need a book stand to read? How would that help you study? Are TLSers the best people to ask for questions regarding home decor?

No. No. No. I've seen people with book stands and they suck. As a side note, remember that your exams are anonymous so being a gunner and asking a litany of questions or pontificating on federalism and the erie doctrine makes you look like a tool to your classmates. At the end of the day the only thing that matter is your grades, not what the prof. thinks of you. From personal experience we had two gunners in the first semester. After grades came out they shut up in the spring semester.

The guy in my section who gunners ironically (hipster gunner?). It's ridiculous and I laughed when I saw it. But he won me over with pun related humor during cold calls.

Do you really need your book to be at a 30 degree angle?TLSNYC wrote:haha, i have no intention at all of being a gunner ...i just thought this question might come off as gunnerish

You want effective gunner gear? Full size wireless keyboard. Increase your exam typing speed by 20%

I just cover my keys in astroglide, improves my typing speed by 7.8 %. Then, during exams I always remember to wear one of those beer helmets but fill each holder with Redbull, guaranteed to improve your score by a full letter grade.Cupidity wrote:You want effective gunner gear? Re: Book stands?
OP, I've actually used a couple of these in my time. I once worked in an administrative office where they were standard issue at every desktop computer station. They worked quite well for holding a document or not-too-big book up for transcription. Turning pages of books was kind of a hassle. I could imagine using one of these at home while working on a more lengthy writing assignment requiring significant hard copy source use.
If you are a true gunner looking to use a bookstand in class, the only credited response would be to pay a broke undergrad to sit in on all of your classes, holding relevant reading material at a 30 degree reading angle for you.

Re: Book stands?
I've seen a couple people using book stands in the library/journal offices (seriously, like 10 people tops throughout 3 years). I've never used one but I'm also not a person who works at tables (I'm a fan of my couch/bed). I can see they'd be useful for outlining I guess, but why not wait until you've started and then decide if you want one, it's not like amazon takes long to deliver. And a pro-tip... def do not use it in class.TLSNYC wrote:Not to sound like a crazy 0L gunner, but I am trying to think of things that might be useful to have as a law student and I thought a book stand might be one of them. If I were to buy one of the ones listed (which I didn't and still managed to graduate law school!) it would be the first one.

I have a similar stool in my kitchen right now, but it's red. Do you think that will be okay for use in the classroom, or is red simply too flashy for a 1L?BlueDiamond wrote:Buy both of these instead.. it is the only way you will be above median

I'd say a classic black or possibly demure nude would be better options if you don't have the swag to pull off red.fundamentallybroken wrote:I have a similar stool in my kitchen right now, but it's red. Wait is this really a big deal? I see people in Panera, Starbucks, etc. using these all the time. I don't have one but I didn't think there was anything weird about them.

Re: Book stands?
The only reason I would consider buying a book stand would be due to neck problems. When you're hunched over a book all the time, your shoulders and neck can get really tense. If you think the book stand will help, then get it. Otherwise, I see no purpose in it.

i'm not sure why people are flipping out about a tiny, folding, metal book stand. looks pretty handy to me, actually. i'm also not sure why everyone jumped to the conclusion that he wanted it for class...

Pretty sure I have the swag for red - more so than the nude. I don't think they'd like that, no matter how demure I was.whirledpeas86 wrote:I'd say a classic black or possibly demure nude would be better options if you don't have the swag to pull off red.fundamentallybroken wrote:I have a similar stool in my kitchen right now, but it's red.
