I apologize for derailing this thread into a Med vs. Law and socialized medicine debate. I defend my original intent but this was not the purpose of the thread.

I agree with Knock: It depends.

For me personally it makes a ton of sense but it may not make sense for others.
Man, this thread was a pile of garbage the minute it was posted. Everyone should know at this point what they're getting into.
Dude if you dont like this thread, move on to another one. Its cool. No one will be offended.

If you want to live in a country without rules where hard work prevails, go to Somalia.

How many do you personally know who come here from Decent Socialist Countries (not a bullshit country which sucks because its poor, not because its socialist) for the medical care?
The point is, anecdotes suck.

Naw, I've heard some pretty great anecdotes in my time. They've mostly been about liquor-fueled hijinx however.

The people are poor because of socialism. It confiscates wealth and stifles ambition.

US doesn't have a pre-defined ideology. I've always considered US to be a democratic-socialist safe haven. If you don't like that with your radical liberal (libertarian, not a US liberal ie Democrat) or Conservative ideology, GTFO.

God this thread is awful, and yet I keep posting.

Make that argument when the US isn't being beaten by a 'socialist' country.

First of all we have a representative-republic. People like you have progressively turned it socialist starting with Teddy Roosevelt. Yes I am a libertarian. I believe in personal freedom and a persons right to keep what they earn to a large extent. I believe in a flat tax and I think that all of our social programs should be cut back until we can offord to pay for them. Does this sound familliar? Like our founding priciples?

To actually address the troll who started this thread: No, its not worth it. Life as a whole is not worth it. No matter what profession you attempt to enter in America you will fail, epically. Forget all about your plans of getting an education, if you cannot attend Harvard, Yale, or Stanford you failed at life and should simply choose a job from some random third-party's top ten jobs list. America is a failed state; get out while you can.

That being said, get real. The average median family income in the United States is around $50,000. I realize that most of us here are looking to do somewhat better, but come on. If you make a smart financial choice when it comes to law school - choosing not to go $200,000 in debt - you will be doing much better than the average American. However, if law school is nothing but an economic choice you probably should not pursue law. There are many other fields that require intelligent, educated workers that pay well. If you are smart enough to get into a T-14 then you are smart enough to do a lot of other things that will leave you better off financially. Heck, if you have the grades and LSAT to get into the T-50 the same argument stands.

Social programs =/= Elimination of a representative republic or anything actually established in the Constitution.

If you want to go back to our founding principles then bring in the slaves.
Or we can just acknowledge that we don't live in a vacuum and we should re-evaluate our problems over time to become a better nation and remain competitive.

We need more leadership by rich, white men like our founders.

First of all, why are women allowed to vote? This reeks of communism, and I'll have no part in it.

Sorry to deflect, but I have a quick question. Are you for or against gay marriage? I just find it amazing how many "libertarians" are all about personal freedom only when it's convenient. If you are for gay-marriage, then, by all means, back to our regularly scheduled programming

Our founding priciples were not meant to include slavery (i.e. "all men created equal") Unfortunately there were some a-holes with power who wanted slavery and much of the south was deeply married to it. The constitution allowed for slavery to be ended here faster than in any other country and our founders knew that slavery would never end in the south if we seperated from them.
