Where does this keep coming from? It's like TLS users keep finding increasingly elitist definitions to describe the world. The term is T14. It means the Top 14. If you can count, then you can tell that Texas is now in the top 14.

To be fair, since no one outside of the legal profession has heard of it anyway, we could easily impose a definition that couldn't be understood by non-lawyers.

And the WORSE solution is to refer to UT as a T14, not b/c they're worse than GULC (they aren't), but b/c it removes the one real advantage of the term: that you know exactly who's in it from year to year.

Also, Georgetown comes before Texas in alphabetically so Texas isn't in the "top 14" in the most literal sense. Just sayin'

Comes from the fact that it's true. Also texas has been ranked #11 before so this isn't a big deal.

Just because the term is T14 it doesn't LITERALLY mean the TOP 14 ranked schools on USNWR. Herp Derp. You've never ran into terms that isn't the same as their literal meaning?

So if GULC fell to #18 (I know it probably won't happen) you would still consider it a t14? I think your post is an observation of the schools traditionally in the t14 rather than an essential part of the definition.

Yes.

lulwut? that would make no sense. If GULC fell to #18, I would never refer to it as a T14 school anymore. In fact, I don't think anyone on TLS (besides you) would. Heck, even T6 now does not include Berk (though I guess that never truly caught on in the first place for them lol).

Kind of like how Texas being T14 probably won't catch on either?

It's T13 now anyways. T14 is just a way for GTOWN to remember how far they have fallen.

Jacques Derrida alert.

T14 is just another signifier. In time, it could come to signify a grouping of schools including UT. Like I said earlier, they need to actually hold on to that spot for more than one year. I'm thinking 3-5. They also need to continue improving their statistics and programs.

possible. I'm not against the T13, though it doesnt have the same ring to it...

and maybe Berk would have caught on if...they stuck in the T6 for more years

I don't really think the T14 has been broken quite yet. If Texas were to move ahead of GTown then yes. But if we are all crying for the end of the T14 this year and then GTown holds the 14 spot on its own next year... what do we do then? The best part about the T14 is that it is constant from year to year, and that hasn't been broken quite yet.

Yes, we will have to see what happens the next 3-5 yrs. Berk didn't hold onto T6 that long at all, so if UT does hold to T14 for that long...who knows what would we what! lol

We should ask Ken DeLeon to give a definitive ruling on this. It's his term; he should decide.

I just hope that for the year that it is available, we can tell people "ED to Texas is the best way to crack T14"

GULC part-time is, was, and always will be the easiest way to crack the T14.

Somebody had to say it.

t10 is still a valid social construct

I was just thinking about it. Texas cannot be t14 unless we kick GULC out. With Texas being in t14 we have 15 schools being top 14. It doesn't make sense. Either GULC or Texas must be out or we need to start calling it t15.

Cardozo, J., could have turned this into a 15-page opinion, no problem.
