The FREAKISH NORM IN TLS

Post by apollo13 » Mon Nov 08, 2010 1:23 am

Why is it that there's the norm here in TLS that one 0L's GPA must be 3.5+ and LSAT of 165+?
I mean I am above the listed requisites - but to suppose that If I weren't, I would've felt like a "retarted" fudgetard barb who follows after unachievable dreams just to waste some goddamn money on TTT schools that would just simply give me the JD title and nothing else. Does it make that much difference going to higher-ranked, elite schools...?

I get what you're trying to say (i.e. that there is a lot of pretention on these boards), but as others have pointed out, this is TOP law schools. And where you go to school does matter quite a bit in the legal profession. (How many Supreme Court clerks, DOJ lawyers, SEC lawyers, BigLaw lawyers, et cetera come from Tiers Two and below? Not a whole hell of a lot.)

But you're right; there is a lot of pretention on these boards. Sometimes it is sickening. People do feel better because they aced one damn standardized test, even though sometimes they've otherwise lived a life of complete mediocrity. (Sorry, guys, but it is true. There are a lot of people at my school - and better schools - who pretty much just had that LSAT and a decent GPA from a mediocre undergrad going for them in their law school application.)

If this is even a serious discussion... the reason is because in this economy, you have to be the best. Settling for average won't get you anywhere. It is very, very competitive out there. Anyone who is not aiming for the top is underestimating what it is going to take.

everyone should get a law degree so they know how to think like a lawyer. especially if it is their dream and they have a useless undergrad degree, i mean seriously what else do you expect them to do?

To be considered on par by TLS standards, one must have around a 175 LSAT and a minimum of a 3.7 GPA. Where in the world are you getting 165+ and 3.5+ from? It's not like all of us are content to settle with going to Columbia or, God forbid, Chicago.

you do realize 3.7 is now below median at most law schools, right? at the 14 law schools that matter, i mean.
