How do you associate child molester with someone that wears a goatee?

Without hesitation. Though upon reflection, it's probably more along the lines of date rapist. Keep in mind, though, that I'm not suggesting that you are either of these things. I'm just describing what most of my experience with goatees has been.

Someone tried to rape you and molest you? Hmmm...I hope that wasn't your angle to get into Harvard.

If that would get me into Harvard, I'd be cool with it.

I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but you sound like a huge douche. I've highlighted the worst parts for you.

Oi OI! I'm not saying i think like this but don't go around assuming others don't. Getting a job is often based on superficial qualities and first impressions... not always, but who knows it could happen to you. I love my facial hair but with shit like this you're just shooting the messenger.

EDIT: the word douche loses it force with excessive use. but you didnt hurt my feelings. I don't think I've ever been called a douche and i do love trying new things. now see that last sentence was douchey.

Thought: Are you white? A goatee looks remarkably different on blacks and hispanics than it does on us. As does the chin strap, though for less of a benefit.

You "sound" like black text on a gray background, so I don't know.

You should have said that earlier! In that case I think it's very doable, though you might want to shorten it a bit. Either way it's impossible for any of us to give you advice without seeing the actual goatee in question.

side note: I am going to get in trouble if the IS department notices how much time I'm spending on the internet today.

As someone who has successfully landed "corporate" and legal jobs with a full beard, I just think there's a general overreaction on TLS against looking anything besides clean shaven Aryan children, so I have to say something. :)

Grow a long scraggly rat-tail coming out of a puffed up mullet: that will accentuate your goatee nicely.

Kidding, but seriously I really doubt it matters at this point. Eventually in interviewing maybe it could become more of an issue. If you trimmed it down and kept it neat I doubt it would hurt your appearance index in almost any setting (except somewhere that requires you not to have facial hair).

This is a perfect reason to grow a long motherfucker. Be different. This profession, and most of law school, is filled with tight asses. It's incredibly deflating and can be a wet blanket on your life if you let it. If you want to make lots of money from old white guys and get invited to the best country club in the city, by all means, shave it all off. But if you're preparing now to be a stereotypical tight-ass lawyer, well, I guess that would just make me find a rope and sturdy shower head.

But in reality it's no big deal right now. For jobs, depending on them, it may need to go. But that's a ways off. And who cares what law students think about you? They're law students. It's far better to be unique for a good reason than to just float around like every other unremarkable asshole.

This is reason enough to shave it.

I would say yes because you want to make yourself as professional as possible.

You know, I was going to stand up in defense of beards. But you know what? You guys are right. He should shave it. Most guys should not have the facial hair, and from your description OP, yours sounds pretty bad. I would get rid of it.

However, not all guys need to go facial-hairless. I have a beard, and I have been sporting it all through law school. It didn't seem to hold me back when I was interviewing for my summer job this last year. I have been doing pretty well with my interviews for next summer so far. I didn't have a girlfriend when I was clean shaven for a while, I have one now. So, some people can get away with the beard. But it doesn't sound like you are one of the OP.

Um, why does he have to either keep it as is or shave it off?

If he likes the facial hair, but thinks it might be too scraggly at two inches to look professional, just trim it so that it's shorter.

Abe Lincs wouldn't cut his facial hair for anyone, never mind law school!

Abe grew his beard to impress people.

Really, while running for president (or was is senate?) he got a letter from a 12 year old girl you basically said, you have a horse face and chicks dig beards - you should grow one... So he did - and it seems to have worked out for him - well assuming he would rather have been the great emancipator and shot in the head than being a country lawyer.

Because he already admitted the reason he grew it out to two inches if that it is patchy, and looks bad shorter. In his instance the only options are leave it long or shave it off.

Only reason I still have my beard is that it does look good (actually, better) very close cropped. I will readily admit that a full, long beard will never go with being a professional for interviews, not matter how Grizzly Adams-esque it is.
