Desk Chair?

Post by houli13 » Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:56 pm

So, I tried a forum search on this topic but to no avail.

Can any of you recommend a comfortable office/desk chair for me to buy? I figured since I will be spending an endless amount of time at my desk at home that I should put some thought (and money) into this purchase in order to save my back.

As a side note, I'm looking forward to the sarcastic images that I am sure are to follow almost as much as any answers to my question, so fire away!

Any one that has a comfy back, preferably a headrest, etc. Theres no specific one that people can recommend. Any desk chair that looks relatively comfy is more than enough.

Yeah, make sure there is adequate back support. Slouching can really cause bad neck and back pain.

Ooohhh, a headrest...I hadn't thought of that. Good call.

What is this witchery and how have I never heard of it?! I usually sit on an exercise ball while on the computer since it promotes good posture but I didn't think that would be comfortable for extended use. Is the kneeling chair actually comfortable and feasible for use of hours at a time?

It's comfortable for 3.6 million hours constant use & is far better for your posture/muscle tone/back than any other option, or at least the common ones we know about. You'll also probaly have a slightly easier time staying alert & focused due to all this. Read the article for why you should avoid a cheapo one though.

I'm actually really interested in a new chair...my posture sucks, my current desk chair sucks, and I know I'm going to be spending a lot of time studying in it (after being in class and in the library).

Any good sources for the knee chair stuff? A quick search didn't yield anything great.

I bought a 100 faux leather chair with a full back at Walmart. It worked amazingly. Get something comfortable. I am of the personal opinion that a desk chair is one of the more important law school purchases.

After the suggestion, I did a little research on it. It looks like you really don't want to cut corners when it comes to buying one of these. One brand that looked good was the Variable Balans Kneeling Chair (cheapest I could find was $395). The concept totally makes sense though. It's called dynamic seating and it opens up your body's sitting angle which helps with your breathing, muscle tone, and because of that you are more alert and, they claim, more able to focus. That's still a lot of money for a chair, but if there is truth to their claims, it might actually be worth it.

If anyone knows of any other reputable companies that makes these chairs, do tell.

Check out office max. Chairs are rated for hours of expected use I bought a leather executive chair a while back that is super comfortable.

I ended up getting a chair off of craigslist. You can save a lot of money this way and get a really nice chair. Mine looks brand new and was purchased at Staples for a couple hundred dollars, the person even gave me all the warranty information it came with.

Can any big-busted ladies weigh in on this question? I have a disproportionately large chest and I struggle with lower back pain on a daily basis. Have any of you found a certain type of chair that helps support that area and keep your back from giving out?

Herman Miller. There is no other answer for me! Used on craigslist is the best bet - they're expensive.

Hmm, that would definitely cut back on that pesky bathroom time, meaning total commitment to studying. Well played, sir.

If you buy i online give yourself a few hours to put it together. The lumbar thingy took me forever to figure out.

I can never find desk chairs that work for really petite people. The back never aligns right :( Any suggestions? No, chairs for children don't work, either.
