I'm interested in patent law and I know the big markets for IP are San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and DC, but which area is the most robust?

Great thread, I am also interested in what people have to say about this. I'm not sure what you mean by "robust" but it just seems an obvious impression that SF and the valley would have the greatest opportunities for IP and tech law. I'm personally targeting silicon valley and Chicago for my IP interests. Chicago particularly has a large number of IP boutiques that seemed to have done decently through the recession. I think LA and NYC would also be hotspots particularly for soft IP/entertainment.

You forgot Dallas (also the SV/SF distinction Amy made is credited).

For the sheer amount of work going around, I am pretty sure DC has all the others beat. But I don't think you should base your decision between each of the major markets on which is more "robust"... you should care about which city you want to live in.

yeah that makes sense

I was more so curious if there was a particular one that was heads and tails above everything else. I know each area has it's strengths, schools and QOL, but I hadn't thought of Dallas.
