On a law school visit I asked about paid work LOR's and the response was that I should def send it in addition to two from professors. The law school admissions counselor said they like to see work ethic outside academia. I'm sure non-work/volunteer is the same.

Absolutely do it. I had 2 from professors and as soon as I started getting waitlist notifications I went ahead and asked my supervisor at my volunteer job to submit one for me (I'd been volunteering for 6 months). It definitely gave me the edge I needed, and it made my desire to do public service as expressed in my personal statement seem that much more sincere.

In short, go for it.
