Hand-Written Notes

I have done it all throughout my undergrad, and would like to through law school, as well. Any obvious setbacks to this? I like using computers as little as possible, and feel I grasp material more when I write it down. Do any 2L or 3L's see students hand writing their notes in class? Thanks.

I plan on hand writing my notes next year as well. I'm faster that way and feel that the material sinks in better.

I handwrite all of my notes in class. At the end of the week, I transfer my notes to an outline form. I end up typing them a third time for my final exam outline. I have found it very helpful for retaining the most information.

It's all personal preference, but I don't think I could handle that much paper. If you do it, I would transfer them to computer shortly after.

This is probably the correct response. Even if you have hard copies of notes, you really need SOME kind of backup. God forbid something happens to your notebook.

I agree. This is why I recommend handwriting and doing outlines at the end of the week. There are plenty of horror stories of students that spill water on their laptops. Of course, it is their fault for not putting the notes on a usb drive.

Yeah, I insist on having two backups at all times.

Daily backups to the cloud (gmail), weekly backups to flash drive. The nice thing about having everything on the cloud is that you can access your notes anywhere.

BTW: if you spill water on your laptop and you have no backup, it's very unlikely that your hard drive is toast. Usually spilled water will just wreck the motherboard. Take the HDD out (usually one screw) and get yourself a USB adapter for the drive (~$15 at microcenter or newegg.com).
