I just dont think I have the right build to pull if off.

I have also seen chubby vegetarians with too much facial hair sporting them.

Really not true when you're talking about walking in to a firm.

I couldn't agree with you more. My comment was in reference to the original post which I believe was talking about what's best for everyday use on campus.

Anyone who walks into a firm with a backpack doesn't deserve the job. But for school, backpack all the way. It's more spacious, more evenly distributes weight, and looks perfectly normal.

Nothing says, "I'd rather look metrosexual than 1) comfortably get all my books to school or 2) save myself from back issues" like a messenger bag.

I'm not sure too many people are suggesting that backpacks are off-limits for going to class.

Leave them at home when it comes to work, though.

excuse me? the original post is from a 0L asking what to use for class next year.

though i thought about it and i do wonder how it would hold out in the rain and all this discussion of messenger bags has me considering biking to class.

I'm going to use my Swiss Army backpack. Love it. I carry too much stuff for a messenger bag.

A lot of young associates carry backpacks. All are making more money than you. Many use them because they need space for both their laptops and their gym clothes.

....no one gives a fuck. Its not like they walk into meetings with their bags. No one walks into any meetings with any type of bags. Firms hire people to carry all the shit you need for you and set it up before you get there.

Trust me, as a paralegal at a V10 firm, I know the pain of being a pack mule.

I didn't mean regarding working at a firm. The topic was about "for law school" and a lot of people had (reasonably or not) shot down the idea of bringing backpacks to interviews or something. What I meant was, anyone who brings a backpack to an interview doesn't deserve the job.

What sort of dimensions should you be looking for in a messenger bag?

More specifically, how wide or deep or whatever?

Deep is relative. As wide as possible.

...I'm sorry...but really, isn't this question so contingent on your own gear that no one can legitimately answer it for you? If you rock a 13.3 inch laptop then this answer will different than if you sport a 15.5 inch one.

Christ, no wonder people hate lawyers.

I've never seen more nit-picky people. It's a backpack, not a case for nuclear arms. It will carry books from your house to school and back. Get whatever is most comfortable.
