Twert, that sounds like what I'm looking for, what is your bag exactly?

Thanks!

i have a targus messenger bag. i like it because unlike a timbiktu or whatever it looks professional and you won't see it all over the place. it doesn't look college studentish.

I recommend Reload bags, based out of Philadelphia I think:
http://www.reloadbags.com/

They make custom messenger bags AND backpacks, so you can actually get a backpack that doesn't make you look like a teenaged girl. They can pretty much create any design you want. They also have some premade stock on their website.

The same L.L. Bean backpack that got me through high school is still going strong. It can be a very heavy backpack sometimes, especially with Con Law in there, but I'm not planning to buy another before I graduate.

I think the messenger bag is a good, non-girly, in-between version of a man purse and a backpack. That's my vote.

Also depends on your needs. I walk. A lot. Anything on only one shoulder would seem fairly nonsensical.

I'm going with the messenger bag. I used it in grad school.

1) It's easier to put on/take off, 2) you can easily swing it around and get stuff out without taking it off, and 3) on hot days backpacks amplify pit-sweat.

Timbuk2 messenger bags are on the expensive side, but FWIW I've used mine continuously for 5+ years and with the exception of worn padding in one corner it looks exactly the same as the day I bought it. If it weren't the laptop style bag with the padding on the back (that's evidently more susceptible to wear and tear), I bet I could pass it off as new.

I've used one of these all 1L year: http://www.ebags.com/product/ebags/fire ... ief/15030#

It wouldn't have worked for me if I didn't cut the bindings off my books and drill them for a 3-ring binder, but it was great and didn't bother me in my ~.5 mile walk to school. I have a much more formal briefcase on order right now, since it is starting to wear out after 6 years of use. But the $10/year I've paid for it has definitely been worth it.

Good, my backpack is an accurate representation of me and the majority of my classmates.

Not sure if anyone cares very much, but I know of a few people who have pretty serious back/hip issues from carrying heavy purses and messenger bags. I'm sticking with my backpack and not screwing my posture up any further.

Nothing says, "I'd rather look metrosexual than 1) comfortably get all my books to school or 2) save myself from back issues" like a messenger bag.

Leave the backpacks at undergrad / on your backpacking trip of Europe.

People wearing backpacks and suits always look hilarious. I see them around the airport sometimes. Nothing says junior executive or "right out of college" more than a backpack with a suit. Plus, it always makes the suit look ridiculous.

I'm not sure too many people are suggesting that backpacks are off-limits for going to class.

Leave them at home when it comes to work, though.

this is asinine. wear whatever you like and feel comfortable with that suits your needs.

there are way more important things to over-think.

Really not true when you're talking about walking in to a firm.
