No, a double major in those degrees is essentially useless. Law firms don't care about that.

Majoring in two distinct hard-sciences would be another story (for those going the IP route).

They'd be better off getting the Masters in their field, which usually is only 30 hours.

Once a long time ago I had the same question as that which appears in your thread title. My adviser told me to do an honors thesis. It was by far the most important class I took in undergrad for intellectual development. So, look into doing an honors thesis.
