Im finishing my BA in Political Science degree. Please dont say economics, as I am no good at math. I am also not too fond of science for right now. I had too much science in my undergraduate work, want to take a break. I was thinking of going to law school. I want to do something in environmental or healthcare law. I want to get MS in Ecology or a Masters in Public Health. I want to possibly adding a second major in.....

Study whatever it is that you like, and keep your ugrad GPA high as a motherf-----. That's all. Don't need a double major. Keep your grade points high.

If you would enjoy one of those other majors, then go ahead, especially if you have good reason to believe your GPA will not suffer as a result. I double majored because two subjects fascinated me. Even if I could have somehow known that I would graduate with a 4.0 if I had only one major, I still would have chosen two. That's how valuable I found my classes.

if your gpa is low and you need extra classes to boost then yes. if your gpa is fine then only double if you'd like. it will have an almost nonexistent influence on your cycle.

Yeah, GPA GPA GPA! And LSAT is twice as important as that! I double-majored (because I enjoyed both subjects), but didn't find that it helped my cycle any more than my LSAT and GPA numbers made me expect. Just study what interests you, as that is a great way to increase your GPA!

I took a concentration in philosophy and am all the different for it. That isn't to say you would enjoy it (only you would know), but personally... I'd go philosphy.

I'm not going to read the entire thread, but just answer the question in the title: absolutely not. in fact, it will most likely hurt you, since your grades will suffer. Do whatever it takes to get above a 3.7 GPA (single major, double major, tripple major, give BJs, WHATEVER IT TAKES).

Your grades will not suffer in the slightest. At many schools (including my own), it is very easy to pick up a second major. In fact, I personally find it a little lazy when people only have one major and no minor. I'm sure adcomms don't care how many majors you have, though.

TCR: If you want a second major, get a second major that you enjoy and will help (or at least not hurt) your GPA.

You're the poster child for what's wrong with our educational system. Instead of learning useful real-world skills which will actually help you find a job after graduation, you choose to drop who knows how many thousands of $$ to major in complete bullshit...subjects which require little more than a pulse in order to ace, let alone pass. Grow a pair and major in something which other people will find useful, otherwise you will end up with little more than a piece of toilet paper in your hands and bill collectors at your door. Employers have absolutely NO use for those subjects. Think of your future and use what precious little time you have left to actually learn some SKILLS as opposed to writing 10 page papers on why Democrats would be better off controlling congress or why every black person in the U.S. should be paid 10k's of $$ in reparations.

No, a double major in those degrees is essentially useless. Law firms don't care about that.

Majoring in two distinct hard-sciences would be another story (for those going the IP route).

unless that major is engineering or math or some other type of science. some majors have so many requirements, it's tough to even
do a minor.

A double major is not needed. You should only pursue a double major if 1) your gpa is low, or 2) you have a genuine interest in the subject. Law school admission counselors, want to see a strong academic profile. One major with a cumulative gpa of 3.5 is better than two majors with a 3.25.
