Is this likely?

Its what I need to do in order to afford my top choice. I wouldn't be working a "real" job but something dumb, like retail.

Thoughts?

just running the #s through my head.

retail = $8/hr at 8 hrs/day = $64/day @ 5 days/wk = $320/wk @ 52 wks/yr = $16,640.

You'd be well advised to look for labor more skilled/highpaying than retail, but it appears to be doable in the sense that if you really, really, really want it, $17k is achievable.

I made 15,000 last year working retail about 28 hours a week making 9.50 an hour in retail if that helps and I claimed 0's for everything for fed.

Take it from someone who's done retail... don't do it! Shit pay and a lot of work! You're going to law school! You'll be exhausted! Please don't!!!!

Yeah... the more that I think about it, the more it seems like a waste of time. You could work the same hours after you get your JD for MUCH more pay. For example, if you were earning $40/hr with your JD, for every 1 hour you put in to pay off 17k in loans you would save 5 hours of your time as a student. Obviously, loans are daunting, but retail is not an efficient use of your time as a student.

Don't work retail. Wait tables. At any remotely busy restaurant that serves booze you can make $100-$250 a night (6 hours or so). That's what I did in the last year while I studied for the LSAT and applied to schools.

i wouldn't do anything that pays that little and will stress you out so much. i'm sure a smart college grad can find an office job that pays at least 15/hr.

retail may seem like the way to go. It sucks. For anyone who cares about actually doing their job and showing up to work on time, retail creates a ton of work related stress and anger. The best jobs to get are at private elementary and high schools. Find something as an administrative assistant or even working in the after school program at a private school. You'll make anywhere from 12-16 an hour to do nothing.

I wouldn't do PT it you are working full time to just cover COL.

Unless you got in GT PT only, I'd just go full.

You should at least be able to make in the 30k range as a paralegal.

Working retail strikes me as rather dumb.
