what to wear on a law school visit?

This is probably a really silly question, but I'm starting my school visits soon (for tours, ASWs, class visits, etc), and I'm not sure if there's some sort of dress code I should be following. Are jeans okay? Should I go for business casual? Does it matter at all? Thanks!

As a safe bet, I think business casual is fair game for all circumstances. But apart from that, it depends on what you are trying to do:

If it is ASW, then nominally dressy is good. T-shirt would be underdressed... but you do see them on a few people.

If you have already been admitted, and are visiting on a random day, I don't think it matters all that much (read... jeans and a polo would probably be okay).

If you are attempting to get off of the waitlist, then pseudo-dressy is good. If you're a guy, go for something along the lines of khakis or slacks, possibly a tie, but a suit is a bit much. If you're a girl, then of course a blouse, skirt, yada yada... I think you get the idea here. Of course, I think wearing a suit would not be frowned upon in this case; you just don't want to come off as too intense.

I had this same question for my aunt last week before going on a personal tour of UPenn. She is a law professor so her advice is solid. For personal tours (esp if you are meeting with teachers, deans etc...) business casual aka slacks and a nice button down. Maybe an overcoat if it's cold. For ASW's, jeans and sweaters, polo's, button downs are standard. You are meeting future classmates and teachers and first impressions are pretty powerful, don't fuck it up by looking like a slob who doesn't care.

Or, on the flip side, look like a slob who doesn't care and then surprise the fuck out of them with your attention to detail and work ethic.

it's gross just looking at the picture, but I have seen this guy in real life. I was pumping gas in West Hollywood and then this guy pulls up in his vehicle to pump gas. So gross. Funny, but gross.

Dress pants and an open collar shirt, which you can dress up with a suit jacket. Whatever is equivalent for women.

In order to call this person out you had to...

1) take a screenshot
2) crop the requisite section
3) upload the newly saved file
4) post it

I admire your dedication, sir.

Windows snipping tool and Tinypic.

Took about 43 seconds.

I don't want to give the wrong idea, that I am somehow dedicated or given to follow-through.

the mini muffin top is the scariest thing I've ever seen. I've always wondered, but never known.
