Asking a school to match another school's scholarship?
I didn't think this was possible, but after reading on this forum, it seems that many do it. What is the best way to go about this. Should I do it over the phone, or through email? I fear that if I do it over the phone, an awkward conversation would ensue.

E-mail or snail mail, not phone. Don't ask them to match it. Say (for example):
Dear Columbia Law School Admissions Staff,
I am extremely pleased to have been chosen for admission into Columbia Law School's Class of 2013. Columbia is my top choice for law school, and I would very much like to have the opportunity to attend.
However, the high cost of tuition and living in New York City makes Columbia a difficult proposition from a financial standpoint. Furthermore, I have received notification from the University of Michigan Law School that they will offer me a half tuition scholarship if I attend. Although Columbia remains my top choice, I cannot pass up the financial advantages Michigan's offer presents without a competitive offer from Columbia. If it would be at all possible for Columbia to provide funding that would mitigate some of the costs of attendance, I would leap at the opportunity.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.

I just threw that together. There are sample letters around somewhere.

Speak only in ebonics and repeatedly demand "skrilla" and "ca$h moneyz." Make repeated threats. Quote Biggie as often as possible.nitr0x99 wrote:I didn't think this was possible, but after reading on this forum, it seems that many do it. What is the best way to go about this. Yeah, probably. But I could see that getting a 10k scholarship or something.DCD wrote:Dear Concerned Applicant,

is it possible to do this on more than one occaision? For example if I negotiate right now with my current offers and the school X comes back with a slightly higher offer, but then I get the rest of my acceptances and have another great offer, would it be extremely rude to then start negotiating again?

Re: Asking a school to match another school's scholarship?
When I was applying to schools I asked the school I'm attending to match the scholarship of a peer school, and they did. So there ya go!
