Top Law Schools

hey does anyone know if there is a difference between planet law school 1, 2, or 3? also how helpful is the book? is it worthwhile reading it?

i've already bought the E&E books and Getting to Maybe and just want to know what some other good prep books are.

I think the consensus here has been PLS is mostly a waste of time due to its length, malcontent tone and lack of editing. I'm sure there's some useful nuggets in there, but I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to find them.

Law School Confidential gets a lot of good reviews. I found it helpful.

I got both. I love LSC so far, I haven't cracked open PLS2 though.

As mentioned, conventional wisdom is that LSC can be obsessive/unuseful but provides a great overview, and PLS has nuggets of wisdom but is otherwise a trainwreck and way, way over the top for what would be helpful. Approach both with caution and you can find useful information, but expect neither to be gospel.

It's not very often that a book makes me really, really hate the author (not just the book itself) while reading it. It's bloated, horribly structured, and full of weirdly misplaced venom. There's an entire chapter devoted to tearing apart critics of PLS, while praising letters from students a WEEK into law school that give the PLS method a thumbs-up. He even makes fun of a critic for not using their real name... when PLS IS AUTHORED ANONYMOUSLY! It's totally befuddling and infuriating. Seriously, what type of serious book has a chapter smack-dab in the middle of the book for insulting critics? Holy God I hate Atticus Finch and everything he stands for.

Which is kind of sad because there are a few good "nuggets" in the book. I can sum those up with, "pay attention to the black letter law." There, PLS is a nutshell.

I recently finished PLS2. I assume Falcon had no editor, because the book is 800 pages of repetition.

Usefull nuggets:

Black letter law = everything
Use supliments
Outline early
Practice hypos

Read the reviews on Amazon for PLS2. Not only are they very illuminating, but they are also hilarious.

Personally PLS2 was worth the read. AF was repetitive, but if you use the book like a reference manual its not bad. The people that have read it, and followed it have nothing but good things to say, other people who think it is suspect aren't really fans. I wasn't really a fan of LSC, it was a decent read, but I found the advice in the book to be common sense...

-I'll save you hours and $20...1. Law school is taught in an inefficient and confusing manner/class and class prep do not prepare you for exams 2. Buy and read the Examples and Explanations series for your first year subjects. Practice with the hypothetical questions in the book to cement your understanding. 3. Buy, practice, and use Wentworth Miller's Legal Essay Exam Writing System (LEEWS).

most all prep is worthless and will stress you out. if you must prep, skim your E&Es, skim GTM.
