I forgot to mention that they also quickly mentioned how they evenly distribute people throughout the sections based on LSAT, GPA, sex, race, and even undergrad. This may be common practice, but I've never heard it mentioned before ASD and thought it was pretty cool.

Yup, they sent an email a few hours ago. FWIW it took a whole 5 days for my status checker to update after I got the call and then I got a bunchhhhh of emails that day and the next day

I wonder if the rankings jump is gonna produce a bigger yield for them this year.

There was quite a buzz today at school about this. I think most of us cracked the old T14 but passed because of the advantages of UT, and we're happy that we now get the best of both worlds. If anyone has any questions about UT for a current student who lurks these forums, let me know. :D

A lot of the mailings and things they send us talk about how collegial the atmosphere is. They're really emphasizing it! Is it really as collegial as they make it seem?

I spent just four days in Texas, and yet I'm already saying "y'all" during everyday conversation. God help me.

Y'all has become a part of my everyday vocabulary. When I went back to Michigan to visit all of my friends gave me looks and made fun me for using it lol.

To be fair, having a second-person plural pronoun is really very handy.

Don't stay at orangewood inn north of campus. Even thought it was 6 miles away from campus and for my flight +hotel wa $275... it was terrible.

1. It's run down, even though the interior appears renovated, it's pretty disgusting at a closer look.

2. When my FARE (uber knockoff) driver dropped me off, he asked me if I was gonna get a hooker and laughed and drove away. I was pretty confused until that night around 10 pm, there were several ladies of the night right outside.

3. The walls are super thin, so I could hear all the wonderful action going on in the neighboring room.

Also someone correct me if this is bad advice but I'd suggest renting a car ... I spent $90 on FARE for 4 rides when I could of gotten a rental for $20/day.

Fare is expensive af. I've taken it a few times and it is usually 2-2.5 times the rate of Fasten or RideAustin.

Ride Austin rates seemed to be about half of what I pay in Chicago for Uber and Lyft. It was really nice and there are always drivers around. Fasten had fewer drivers around but similar price.

Can't help but laugh at this. I coulda told you that about the hotel :( I second what others have been saying- Fasten and others are cheaper. Although frankly, I've still had bad experiences with all them and still find they aren't as cheap-particularly for longer rides-than Uber and Lyft were. If you're planning on driving around a lot, I don't think renting a car would be the worst idea if you can find a cheap one. We also have zip car and car 2 go with many stations to pick the cars up near campus and downtown

Ehh a lot of the hotels got bad reviews near the school. I think I'll just drive to Austin and back to Houston the same day. I've done it before, but I wanted to stay for an extra day and look at apartments.

Speaking of which I have no idea where I want to live. $1000 or more for a studio still seems ridiculous to me. It's more reasonable for a newer complex but there are some old ones charging just as much.

I posted in the other UT page, but I thought I might as well try here, too.

Okay, has anyone had success getting some scholarship/aid after negotiations? I was offered nothing from UT, but I have sizeable-ish offers from Vandy, WUSTL, and USC. I'm visiting at the end of the month to see if I want to engage in negotiations. Does anyone think these would give me a shot to getting SOMETHING? Like at least 45k?

Did you get the in-state tuition waiver at least?

I haven't begun negotiating yet (I'm still waiting on UCLA's offer so I can assess everything) but based on what you got from Vandy and the others you should have at least get the waiver. I think you could be successful in negotiating for that and maybe a small scholly on top of that. And if you're visiting later this month that signals you're at least interested.

I got nothing :( I would be happy with the waiver for sure! lol UT was one of my top choices but I can't pay sticker. I guess I will have more talking points in my reconsideration request after my visit.

Real talk? No. It's law school. It's competitive. But they put you into sections and societies and encourage you to be more competitive externally of your society, rather than amongst each other, and it works to some extent. People are less snotty. Bar review is packed on Thursdays. There's a lot of drinking, everyone is invited to everything, and there are social events all the time. During these social events, everyone bonds.

I'd say the primary difference between this and other T14s (this info being both from ASWs I went to and friends who go to other schools) is that people can forget about law stuff and let loose on nights and weekends.*

*except during the tense period where some people have jobs and others don't, in which case if you're one of the top 25%, be prepared to be on the receiving end of some extra nastiness

For a studio? Are you looking on 6th Street? Even Sabina is cheaper. You can find a nice one bedroom that's roomy and in a nice area for 1k/month. Easy.
