Mine is already activated and I got the Columbia email.

I registered for LawNet today too, but I thought we would get a .law email address?

It's a weightlifting club. They are not very active, though. All I remember them doing was the occasional group lift on Sundays. I tried getting them to set up a CLS Biggest Gainer, and I even offered to run the logistics, but nothing ever came of it.

Lawnet says it can't find me :( Probably because I only deposited yesterday though.

Also, I don't think so. The CLS students whose contact info I have are just @columbia.edu email addresses.

Yeah, I just checked the CLS students I spoke to and they are all @columbia.edu addresses as well. I guess it's for the best, one less email to worry about lol.

For those who have activated your LawNet accounts, were you able to personally create your UNI, and therefore your ____@columbia.edu email address? It seems mine was created at random using my initials and random numbers. Just wanted to confirm this is the norm.

It is created at random, but then you are able to create a "nickname" email address that will forward to that email address. The other address is still created for you, but you get to choose slightly better options like firstname.lastname@columbia.edu

That makes more sense. If you don't mind sharing, where do you go to create this nickname address? And once it's created, do we have access to these email accounts yet?

Once you create your email address there was a link that asks you to create it. I am not sure where else to find it.

Yep, I have access to my email!

Haha I must've missed it. Hopefully there's another way to access it.

Edit: I think the issue has something to do with registering and accessing the site on my phone. Hopefully it can be resolved once I have access to a computer.

Stupid question, but is the email student.colombia.edu?
Meaning do I get free Amazon prime?

Try this https://cuit.columbia.edu/cuit/manage-my-uni Once you're activated, click "Email Alias"

it took some poking around but there's a link somewhere that says "Manage My UNI." the URL should look something like uniapp.cc.columbia.edu/acctmanage/mailalias?execution=e2s2

I appreciate that, I actually just found this too after some digging around myself and just came back to update the above. It worked on my phone after all haha.

Edit: If anyone has an issue: Go to the JD Orientation page --> "Before you Arrival" --> Columbia University Student Number and IDs --> Manage my UNI

Is that a thing???

I really don't think it is because the chances of getting off any WL are pretty low.

Given the size and makeup of H's WL, I have to assume a huge number of Columbia admits are on the WL. I don't see how it would be important to CLS at all.

Ultimately none of us actually know with certainty what is important to CLS admissions/financial aid.

The worst they can say is no. They're not going to rescind your offer just because you ask for more, so it's worth a shot. Who knows, they may have even planned on giving you more. Another T13 made an initial offering and then less than a week later, followed up with an increase in their aid offer without me ever even negotiating. Who knows--maybe funds have freed up or there is something super special about you in your app that would make them really want you and willing to bite..

I'm more inclined to think if they do offer you more, it'll be for other reasons besides your WL activity but at any rate...good luck!

Update: this did not work. Lol. They were like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FshkO8HqQ10.

In any event, my deposit is paid, so yay.

All a go for CLS!

1- Does anyone have any idea when we get housing assignments? (I realize the application deadline is May 15th.)

2- What is this Destination thread??? Late to the party

I currently pay $$$ to go to Equinox but that's just irresponsible while taking out student loans so I'll be quitting at the end of the summer.

What are your plans?

NYSC on 124th is the closest decent gym, but it's on the east side of Morningside Park, which I've been told is sketchy as f**k, especially at night.

Arms: high-rep casebook curls
Core: jolting out of nightmares about forgetting to turn in an assignment
Cardio: late-to-class panic sprints

+100000

But seriously, there's NYSC nearby so if Dodge sucks as much as people say it does I might sign up for that. One of my pet peeves are gyms that suck/too crowded. I want to be able to workout at whatever time I want without having to wait for 3 people to finish benching before I can start.

Agreed. How much does NYSC go for?

Not sure but I think between 50 and 100 a month, definitely less than 100, and maybe (hopefully!) they have a student discount.

In NYC? No way.

NYSC can't be more than 60 a month. Back in the day I had like a $30 a month student membership from them.

There's also a BLINK fitness like 15 minutes away from CLS and that's literally the cheapest gym membership you could get, prices start at like $20 a month.

Doesn't one of the on campus housing options have a gym? Any word on if it's any good? Apartment gyms are very hit-or-miss

I could have sworn that when I visited Lenfest, I was told it had a small gym in the basement. I assume Lionsgate does too but either way I don't expect them to have as much as a full gym would.

Procrastinated at work by setting up LawNet/UNI/email, requesting my transcript and dean's certification, and mailing my immunization records. I'm not excited or anything...

Me when I remember I'm going to Columbia: :D

Me when I look at my loan and income spreadsheets (which don't factor in any expected bonuses) and come to terms with my plan to pay $3,100 a month in loan repayments after graduation, increasing the monthly repayment amount by $100 each year, until 2029:

One of these days I'm going to make a spreadsheet with projected income, expenses, and actual tax tables so I can sleep at little better knowing that I'm not crazy for doing this.

I came to the conclusion that working in big law, paying rent in the city, and paying more than 3k a month for student debt might just result in depression during my late 20's and early 30's. Imaging working those horrible, grueling hours and paying everything off to loans

I rather pay off more in the long run but enjoy my younger years.

Does everyone here want NYC? I know big law starting salaries are the same in many other (and maybe even all?) cities where the COL is much cheaper.

You're 100% right. I heard the best market to pay off debt through biglaw is in Texas. Their COL is an insane amount cheaper and salaries are pretty much the same.

All of my long term career goals are tied in with NYC though =/
