Pretty sure as long as you apply before the 28th you'll be fine, the time you submit the application bears no relation to the outcome of the lottery

Wait lol they make the housing lottery deadline 2 days before the deposit deadline? Ruuuuude

Does anyone know if you can apply for the housing lottery but later choose not to take anything? I think I'd maybe prefer to live off campus in non-university housing, but I'm unsure.

Also, who else is thinking non-harvard housing?

Yeah, my understanding is that you can look at your options when it's your turn and if you don't want any of them you don't have to take em.

Into the lottery I go!
I need a kitchen, basically.

Same. Already live in non-harvard housing located very close to H square. Gonna resign my lease in a week or two.

Since you seem to know the area, do you mind me asking if there are any "must avoid" zones?

   Well there are several reasons (mostly bc I already have a place courtesy of the gf) but also because it's generally cheaper unless you're looking for a 3 bedroom. I do have access to a spreadsheet of 3Ls courtesy listing their places on the chance you'd like to take them over. Let me see where it is and I can post it here.

How does one find roommates? Just through the roommate tab on the housing portal? Or through the facebook page? How are y'all doing it.

I just signed a lease for an apartment in Beacon Hill. I definitely want the Cambridge during the day, and Boston in the night/weekends lifestyle.

My gf (a 1L) found roommates through the FB group. She set up a brunch to meet other people living in her city, then hit it off from there.

One *major* note about living off-campus: almost all leases in the area start either June 1 or September 1. As our classes start August 30, we are shit out of luck for the first 2 days of school if we pick places starting September 1, or we're paying an extra 3 months of rent for places starting June 1.

Anytime  She said several people did September 1 leases and stayed in an AirBnb the first week, moving into their place over Labor Day weekend.

Yeah I'm 29. Neither want dorm life nor a messy roommate, but roommate might be unavoidable. Unless of course there's a way around the 180k.

For those who received their financial aid awards, how did you get it (through HLS email, personal email, etc.)? And about how long did it take after you got the email that your finaid application was complete?

Hey y'all I finally tracked down the URL of the Google spreadsheet of 3L pass-down housing I promised a while back!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0

NOTE: You have to have accepted your HLS offer to view the spreadsheet, as you have to have a "current student" account to view it rather than an "admitted student" account.

Got an email about HBX Credential of Readiness (CORe). Anyone thinking about doing this program?

Also --- anyone have experience living off-campus, not in the immediate area? I have a family, so trying to find semi-affordable housing. It looks like I'll be a bit away from Cambridge, but I figure it won't be too bad as long as I'm near the red line. Anyone know of good areas, or areas to avoid?

I'm definitely thinking about doing the program.I don't really have any background or experience in business.
I don't know anything about the areas, I am moving with my spouse and dog, so I am a little worried about options for housing. I did have a friend who commuted around an hour to Harvard (for a different grad program). I know it really wore her out and made it hard to work with other students and build relationships. I'm guessing you aren't planning on being that far away, though.
