If Chi gave me half what NYU did, what are the chances chi will match or increase their offer?

I had success negotiating with UChicago last year with peer schools and slightly lower ranked schools. Definitely give it a shot.xn3345 wrote:If Chi gave me half what NYU did, what are the chances chi will match or increase their offer?

Same! Also, and perhaps this is an unfair assessment, but does it concern anyone that UChicago Law tends to have a reputation for being particularly harsh/competitive when it comes to grading? I've heard murmurs of "grade deflation." Anyone have any insight on this?Anon.y.mousse. wrote:yeah I did last night!curry1 wrote:anyone get an e-mail from a faculty member yet?

Re: UChicago Class of 2020
I don't have any special insight, but that reputation makes since given that UChi's grading scale lends itself more to pretty detailed comparisons between students more than other peer schools (i.e. the high pass/pass/low pass system at Harvard/no grades at Yale (is that a thing?)). It's pretty easy for employers/judges/whoever is hiring to look at two transcripts and deduce that a 182 is better than a 180, whereas both of those students at Harvard might have had a high pass and been seen as the same, for all intents and purposes. But that is based on my very limited knowledge of how Chi's grading works!VA2lawschool wrote:Same! ETA: It doesn't particularly concern me I guess because UChi's reputation is so solid overall that those really granular comparisons might not mean much in the grand scheme of things. Also I guess I don't have any info as to the other point - the percentage of Chi students earning what would constitute an A or a HP or an equivalent outstanding grade at other peer schools.

Re: UChicago Class of 2020
Thanks for providing your take, that makes sense! I don't think I would be concerned if it didn't affect the dynamic amongst students (particularly in 1L sections). I would ask an alum on here, but I'm not sure whether that question has been beaten to death previously.Anon.y.mousse. wrote:I don't have any special insight, but that reputation makes since given that UChi's grading scale lends itself more to pretty detailed comparisons between students more than other peer schools (i.e. the high pass/pass/low pass system at Harvard/no grades at Yale (is that a thing?)). I know Regents Park is the most popular housing option for 1Ls, but I was wondering what other apartments are pretty popular among law students in HP? Was thinking of touring some of them when I go up to visit the campus.

Re: UChicago Class of 2020
So I just realized I effed up - didn't realize that Chicago needed parental info on FAFSA because every other school I've submitted it to didn't need it on the FAFSA because they were getting it from CSS or whatever. I HIGHLY doubt I would qualify for need-based aid based on my parents' income, so at the moment I'm inclined to just leave it as is but I don't know if it will hurt me and I don't want to leave money on the table because Chicago is probably my top choice. People who have gotten their scholarship awards already - was it predominantly merit-based? Did it specify?

Re: UChicago Class of 2020
Hey everyone, current UChi 3L here. Congrats for getting in, and for those who already made up their mind to come here welcome!
I'm graduating and moving to California in June, but my lease runs through August. If any of you are moving to Chicago for June or July and looking for a room, I'd like to offer you mine. Details:
Located in Hyde Park, a 3 min walk away from the law school.
Standard rent is under $800/month
3 bed 2 bath (master has their own, I don't have the master room)
My current roommates are both 2Ls (male) and will likely be staying, so you should have two 3L roommates next year.
It is "south of the midway," but I've never had any issues with crime or anything.
Hardwood floors for kitchen and living area
In unit washer/dryer
Fast reliable internet (honestly the best thing about this place)
Landlord likes one year leases that run from sep 1 - aug 31
I've been here all three years, never regretted it. All my roommates have been UChi law students too. Lots of other Uchi grad students in the building as well.
If you are interested and want to see pictures, we can facetime or I can take photos and send them. Alternatively, if you are planning to come down for ASW, hit me up and I'll show you the spot. You can DM me here or send me an email: ceaton@uchicago.edu. I'm really hoping someone is willing to move in June so we can split that rent lol (public interest life means I'm very money conscious), but I could do a July take over too. I'm planning to post this on the facebook page as well.
