Checking in, though I likely won't end up here. Still, Dean S said they will "reconsider" my scholarship and I should hear back in the next week....

Let us know how it turns out! Got a WL from USC and don't have any leverage from T14s, so not sure how much luck I would have :(

I was there, but I don't have too much to compare it to. Seemed like a well-run event. Both the event and UCLA Law turned out to be pretty much just as I expected. In other words, the event really didn't increase or decrease my estimation of UCLA, but more confirmed what I had already gathered about the school (good and bad). The most helpful aspect for me was the small group student Q&A panel, where we seemed to be divided up with people coming from similar backgrounds.

Fair question. Most I would say are more subjective matters or preferences that may not apply to others. As for more objective things:

Good:
High caliber students, faculty, and general atmosphere
Attractive specialization programs
Good for LA BigLaw, and for staying in SoCal in general

Bad:
Lacking some of the resources, facilities, and family-feel of smaller private law schools
Live-client clinical programs are few (but growing?)
Mixed reviews for Career Services

Don't read too much into these, though, they're just my own impressions. Depending on your options and desires, you may see things quite differently.

ASD was pretty much as I expected. I went to UCLA for undergrad though, so I'm interested to see what other people thought.

As philawsopher pointed out (and you all probably received the email by now), they're guaranteeing tuition which is pretty cool. If you don't want to read the memo linked on the email, the max in-state tuition for 2016-2017 is $45,500 and it can only increase by max $500 each year. The UC Regents set the tuition though, so if they happen to increase it by more than what UCLA Law is currently guaranteeing, UCLA will increase your scholarships to offset that amount. If you're OOS, you can qualify for in-state tuition during 2L and 3L.

I also liked how many options they had, including courses, specializations, and clinics/experiential learning. They don't have as many opportunities to work with actual clients as they'd like, but they still have a lot and are working on offering more. From what I heard from another student, you can also do a lot of work with student orgs like El Centro work with clients. Dean Mnookin also seems pretty cool.

Overall, the visit didn't sway me one way or the other. This was my first ASD, and I'm visiting a few more schools later this month. I'll most likely end up here, since it seems like my cheapest option at the moment, but keeping my options open.

Also, let me know if any of you have questions about the area (housing, food, etc) since I'm pretty familiar with it

What a fun club to be a part of!

How long after after your acceptance call did you get an email? Did you get stuff in the mail too? How long after all that did you get $$$?

Interesting experience Re: Schollys PM for deets

Also I LOVED ASD. Im really seeing myself at UCLA even though I've been admitted to "better" schools. I liked it much better than my GULC visit last week. We'll see how it compares with Mich.

Did everyone get the provisional award letter today?

That loan amount was painful. Going to try to negotiate with my Vandy offer plus see if I can get any more need-based aid, since they're estimating I'll have a family contribution of ~10k when in reality it will be zero. If they don't budge, bye bye LA :(

Checking in! As a native Angeleno pretty psyched to get accepted, hope they give me enough $$$ to make it viable. I don't think I'd be able to make the ASD though, anyone think it was a game-changing experience for them?

Not for me, but I've talked to other people that really liked it and were convinced. I think if you aren't too familiar with UCLA it's definitely helpful. I went to the first ASD but think I'm going to go to the next one too since I have more questions now that I want to ask, and I am hoping they make a really great second impression to make my decision easier because I don't want to move lol

I got mine as well. It's generous, as I knew, but I'm going to negotiate against SLS cause I want to stay in LA. I think from lurking around here that you went to UCLA as an undergrad, and so did I! So if we both choose UCLA, we'd be double bruins together!

Got my provisional award letter today, must admit I was extremely disappointed when all I saw was them telling me to take 200k+ in loans. There is no way in hell I'd be able to afford UCLA at sticker, going to try to negotiate w/ my T14 offer...

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
