Got the amount I'm approved for in the mail, nothing through email yet and no directions on doing the MPN or next steps :/
Kind of surprised that even though I have a scholarship I was still approved for the whole ~80k budget in loans
Oh ok gotcha, thanks! I moved recently so maybe that's why I haven't heard about anything yet. I'll keep my eyes peeled for snail mail.
PSA - just found the certification letter in my gmail spam. I emailed finaid this morning asking where the letter was sent since I have two addresses on file and they said all communications would be via email.
Thanks! I should have updated as well to say that I emailed them and they also told me that all communication would be via email as well.
I just looked in my spam folder and found an email from
no-reply@pobox.upenn.edu. I'd add this to your safe list just FYI.
ETA: The email was sent to me on May 6th by "Penn Loan System."

For those of you who have been approved for loans, when did the financial aid office tell you the loans are expected to be disbursed? In my email they said August 22nd, but I noticed that tuition payments are due late July... O.o O.o O.o

I asked the finaid office about that and they said the loans are applied to the July tuition bill. So we'll still get a bill saying we owe the tuition, but it just gets taken out of whatever we're expecting to get in August.

Hey y'all, really excited to see you in a few weeks.
I'm massively confused by financial aid, and I was wondering if someone could help me out.
I'm looking online at the PennPay system, and I see that my term balance (without accounting for financial aid or anything) is around $21k. However, with financial aid included, my term balance is around -$12k. I'm taking out some loans, so this means I should request a reduction in my loans, right?
Thanks for your help!!

I think it will depend on how much you think you need for rent/food and other expenses for the first semester. But honestly I am and taking a lil too much this year that way i can take less next year and have a little bit of a security net for unexpected expenses.

Thinking this too. Cutting it a little close no? Can anyone give any insight as to when they where released in past years?

The registrar said they will be finalized a week or so before orientation, and they will notify us by email.

This doesn't help with individual prof/book assignments, but if you go to the mycourses part of the ASW and click on "1L block schedule" you can see the times classes are. It looks like 1Ls have class 9-4 mon-wed, 10:30-11:45 Thurs, and nothing Friday. Hoping those are the finalized blocks because that'd be an amazing schedule!

I glanced at the block schedules quickly, and it seems that the three sections break down like this:
Section 1 and 2 (arbitrary #) -
M- 9:00-10:15/10:30-11:45/1:30-2:45
T- 9:00-10:15/10:30-11:45/12:45-2:45
W- 9:00-10:15/10:30-11:45/1:30-2:45
Th- 10:30-11:45
F- Off
Section 3 -
M- 9:00-10:15/1:30-2:45/3:00-4:15
T- 9:00-10:15/12:45-2:45/3:00-4:15
W- 9:00-10:15/1:30-2:45/3:00-4:15
Th- 10:30-11:45
F- Off
It depends which Civ Pro section one has.

2L here, even if you don't get enough time to order your books prior to the first classes I urge you guys to not give in and overpay at the bookstore. You can use friends'/library reserve for a few days without trouble.

Buy your books on Amazon or somewhere else and only rent if it is MUCH cheaper than any other option. I made back about 80% of my 1L book costs this way because I could sell them (on Amazon or for their trade in).

I might've missed this, but is the legal research and writing course graded? Wondering how much time I'll need to spend on it...

Pass/fail/honours (about 1/3)
A very small amount of time throughout the year and a few weekends.
