20th ed. of Bluebook or 19th?

Post by FuturePanhandler » Sat Jul 18, 2015 7:54 pm

Are you guys getting the 20th edition of the Bluebook (brand new, not many used copies available) or the 19th? Looks like there's a fair amount of changes, but I have no idea whether they're important or not.

Used the 18th when I should have been using the 19th. You'll be off a bit when the professor talks about certain citation rules on p52 when in your edition it's on p51, but you'll be fine.

FWIW, I got the 20th. It's $40 for a new copy - personally I felt like the twenty bucks I would save by getting a used copy of the 19th wasn't worth it. Especially since, unlike your casebooks, you'll actually have a reason to keep it after the class is over.

A little gunner-ish and thinking way ahead, but if your school has a citation exercise portion of the writing competition (for journal membership next summer), I'd get the 20th edition. You'll probably need it for the citation exercise and you definitely only want to buy one Bluebook.

Buy the 20th. The changes are substantial, including a renumbering of the rules in the Bluepages.
