Brilliant derivative. Costco sells beds, couches, and carpets; you can start chilling at any point in the run.

Mostly applies to D.C. too.
Houston and DC seem very similar in the summer, except you pay twice as much for DC prestige.
yeah but think of how much more my Midwestern relatives will hate me when I say I'm a lawyer in DC than if I said I was a lawyer in Houston
I'll get to be the ~Washington Elite~ Fox News hates so much even though my practice will have nothing to do with lobbying
It's these little things that make COL here worth it

Familial spite is definitely a consideration that isn't accounted for/is undervalued.

Come to Chicago. We've got beaches, an ocean that doesn't sting your eyes, and more Asian carp than you could catch in a lifetime.
Also we don't smell.
But snow and ice. And isn't it basically a warzone? Houston and Dallas are incredibly cheap (NO STATE INCOME TAX), ice-free, and perfectly pleasant places to live.
There is nothing remotely pleasant about Houston in the summer.
Tunnels
Texas summer is enough to make me not want to be there. also houston is a terrible city in general. (biased cause dallas ftw)

Incidentally, the Asian carp is the only fish god designed completely shit-canned; he just put the eyes whereverthefuck.
Chicago is basically my retirement plan. Big city culture without the big city prices.
Also best pizza in the country.

One of the things that I wish I was better prepared for before law school: coping with a seemingly endless stream of rejection while your classmates are all talking about which BL SA they want. FML.

As usual, I'd rather know the lay of land and exactly how much more desirable my fellow classmates are than I am.

Earlier today I was complaining about a time consuming assignment I have next week for an Advocacy class. Then I got a phone call informing me that I am being called to testify before Congress.
I miss being concerned about my Advocacy assignment.

There is a congressional investigation related to computer security issues at the federal agency I work for. I had a role in how these issues were dealt with, and now I have been added to the list of people being called on to testify.

I am going to law school because the biggest problems with large agency/organization InfoSec is often not technical, it is mistakes made in contracts and interpretation/implementation of regulations.
eta: I think that a niche exist for people with a background in IT/InfoSec who has enough legal knowledge to better interface with legal, contracting, and procurement offices to help overcome the stumbling that nearly everyone has in building and maintaining InfoSec programs.

I am not on the traditional GS pay scale, but my salary is roughly equal to GS-14, step 10 for the DC locality area.

lol sorry I couldn't resist! I hope it goes well!
No worries.
On the bright side, for the subjects I have been informed that I might be asked about, my role is rather trivial. I thought it was interesting that the
government attorney arranging the hearing on behalf of my agency informed me that I had the option to go to the hearing with an attorney from the agency, I could go by myself, or I could hire an attorney and the agency would reimburse me for the cost.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
