That's the joe gilmore drink, I'm talking about the "Churchill Martini," which I've only ever heard called a "Churchill." You still pour it over ice though.

The waving vermouth/looking toward France thing is obviously a joke

I love well made drinks and cocktail knowledge as much as the next foodie yuppie, but all of the best bartenders I've ever had have been entirely unpretentious and if the customer wants a vodka martini will happily make it without sniffing and looking down their nose.

Drinking should be fun. Do whatever makes it fun for you, and allow others to do the same.

Bloody marys really depend on personal taste, but here's a recipe that's been pretty well received:

- Few sprigs of parsley and basil, smashed up real good. Pick other herbs if you prefer.

- Olive juice, pepper, tabasco, worcestershire to taste

- tomato juice and vodka (2:1 or 3:1 your preference)

- ice

- Shake shake shake shake shake

- Use a very fine strainer to catch the herb bits and whatnot, strain into a glass with ice

- Garnish with celery and olives

Bloody marys are basically tomato soup with vodka in it. For a promotional event, this one guy just cooked a huge batch of tomato soup (it had meat and stuff in it), chilled it over night, and served it after stirring some vodka in.

It's common knowledge that all pro bartenders spit in vodka martinis. No tolerance for that kinda peasant, unlearned foolishness.

ETA - This other bar I knew had a buffet-style bloody mary thing too, which was pretty cool. You could build your own.

I usually add a touch of stranger saliva to mine anyway. I think it adds a needed pizzazz.

Haha that's probably true.

PNJ, is it more annoying to make a shitty drink that hurts you inside to be creating, or a really labor intensive drink like a ramos gin fizz?

If it's a busy night then I'd give anything to only pour whiskey cokes and gin and tonics all night. If it's empty on a Wednesday evening, I rather enjoy cracking an egg and all that jazz. My favorite drinks to make probably involve a float like a penicillin or something.

The only drink that hurts me inside to make is when a man orders a cosmo for himself (yes this happens, more often than it should).

Hey the penicillin is one of my very favorites. I have a hard time finding places to make it though because a lot of places don't have ginger syrup.

I mean, most people don't seem to have a problem making out with strangers, and that's basically the same thing.
How are you making out? Do you play hot potato with your saliva?

In a pinch, you could get most of the stuff you need from the kitchen. You can just slice up the ginger and muddle it in. If it's a chill night I'd gladly do it but if it's busy there's just no way. My bar used just used straight up ginger juice, and we never ran out since you don't need much and you can store it for a long time.

Hikko your schtick is getting less and less believable.

It does give us a few stale jokes to trot out, in addition to the ego boost.

Did you post in the lounge thread for coaching?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
