I don't recall when (summer sometime), but one thing to note is that you can use your own photo for the ID, so that you're not at their mercy to take a decent one.ilikebaseball wrote:anyone know when we'll get email or id cards or any more info pertinent to the fall?

no one really gets email info. For everyone its the same. It came in your acceptance packet. The bookletBigCityDreams wrote:I haven't received any email log-in information. Hi Guys,
How did you all find out about scholarships? I didn't see anything in my admissions packet. Is there a way to check online?

It should have been in your admissions packet. There should be two separate letters: the admissions letter and the scholly letter. It all came in the same folder, as well as a booklet promoting the school.Comet123 wrote:Hi Guys,

email comes pretty early (by that I mean late June or maybe the first few weeks of July) if I remember correctly. You'll get a form for sending in a photo for your ID at some point and then you will pick it up the week before orientationilikebaseball wrote:anyone know when we'll get email or id cards or any more info pertinent to the fall?

Hey Everyone,
I know housing has been a popular topic on this thread. My wife and I are moving to Dallas a little early (May 1), and we are signing the lease this morning.
I know the school refers a few "apartment locators," but I wanted to give a plug for the guy that helped us. His name is Cody Weaver, and he is with Bamboo Realty. His number is 210-383-7762. He specializes in apartments, townhomes, condos, and also single family homes (what we rented.)
Our experience was awesome. I called him a few days before we were planning on coming into Dallas. I gave him a few houses that I found and he made the calls to schedule viewings and added a few of his own. He was able to show us everything we wanted to see in addition to negotiating some awesome terms with the landlord.
The best part is that he is paid by the landlord a commission. Cody is highly recommended!

If there is anyone interested in obtaining housing near campus, i.e. in the HP/UP area, and is seeking a roommate please let me know. I've done some cursory browsing and there are a few apparently good options, within only 1 or 2 blocks of campus, but that require more than 1 tenant. It may be preferable to live with other graduate students.

Of course. Which is partly why I want to avoid waiting until August.
Also I spoke with some current students at a recent banquet in Dallas and was informed that there are only 2 full-time sections (plus 1 evening section) for each entire class year. I'm not exactly sure how this system works, but in any case that information will probably be helpful in narrowing down the list of potential roommates. Also the vast majority of law students apparently choose to live in uptown or on the East side of I-35 rather than so close to campus, further narrowing such lists for some students.

Do you mean east side of 75? I don't know anyone who is as far over as 35. The east side of 75 is the village and it is where a lot of people live at least for a yearthenorth wrote:Of course. Which is partly why I want to avoid waiting until August.

Re: SMU Dedman Law Class of 2018
Thank you. I did mean I-75.
And what you're saying is consistent with what I've heard. Even though that area of apartments isn't very far and has access to the SMU shuttle, some of the places I've looked at -- on, say, Daniel Ave. or Binkley Ave. -- are "roll-out-of-bed close," which appeals to me. I suppose it depends on what the student wants to be close to during the school year, considering that the price differential between many near-campus apartments and places like the village and uptown is not significant.

All of you guys talking about living along 75, I'm jealous. I'll be commuting from sooo far away until at least the middle of autumn.

Does anyone have an opinion on The Avery on Southwestern?

Re: SMU Dedman Law Class of 2018
I have lived at The Avery for all 3 years of law school, and it's great. They have been steadily raising prices, but it's still not terrible. You could get into Uptown for a bit more...but then you'd have to deal with Uptown.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
