I'm in class until 9pm today, so I can't elaborate, but I think there is more in implications of that article. It plays on the idea of the "honor student" at a "party school." (I also think that the media is aware of this idea selling, so it's not just that they are not thinking critically.)
ETA: But good to know we have good parties here.

Mec, also, a line of inquiry for you wrt UCLA/USC might be the type of employers coming to their respective OCIs. Any significant differences, or virtually similar.

One more month before deposit day. I'm sure they will start sending out mostly waitlists from now with some acceptances so hang in there.

^^^ This is what I was insinuating, should have actually taken the time to type it out, but I am entirely too sleep deprived.LawsRUs wrote:I'm in class until 9pm today, so I can't elaborate, but I think there is more in implications of that article. Side note, remember how we were talking about finding civil people on TLS. Well I found a thread that makes me want to abandon the site all together. I am fuming mad right now.

Don't go into the lounge. Just because that forum is inaccessible to the public, people talk shit in there. Just stay in the on-topics. Especially this forum.
I've worked at a legal aid office in helping clients who are differently abled. Even the word "aspie" that gets thrown around on this board is no funny shit. They obviously haven't met families wih someone with Aspergers. I've thought about retiring from TLS, and I probably will once school starts, but there will always be idiots on here. Just stay in the on-topics.

I do but I hit the new posts button instead of the subscription button and that happened to be at the top, and I lack the ability to let ignorant people be sometimes. Just realized, a mod started the thread.

Yeah, I used to tell people off, but I'm getting really sick of it now. They just want attention, that's all, because they are bored imo.mec896 wrote:I do but I hit the new posts button instead of the subscription button and that happened to be at the top, and I lack the ability to let ignorant people be sometimes. Did anyone else get that email offering an additional $2,000 scholarship first year if you deposit by Friday at noon PST?

Yes I got it too, which infuriates me because they just shot down my request. UCLA just asked me to wait until after the deposit deadline as well. Should have started sooner. . . . Not going to spend $500 when I just told them I need more scholly $ before I'll commit.6778628 wrote:Did anyone else get that email offering an additional $2,000 scholarship first year if you deposit by Friday at noon PST?
Is anyone going to take it?

I haven't checked my email. What is this early seat deposit business? They had it last year too iirc. What are we going to do? How much are they giving you? The same amount?

The offer is to deposit by 4/3 to get and extra 2k. Why couldn't they at least offer me that without the damn deposit in response to my negotiation. It's kind of insulting to get both in the span of an hour. I might not go to school this year, I don't think I can hack it financially, and UCLA just told me to wait until after their seat deposit. I'm so frustrated.LawsRUs wrote:I haven't checked my email. What is this early seat deposit business? They had it last year too iirc. What are we going to do? How much are they giving you? Edited for reading comp and the fact that TLSing on an iPhone is a horrible idea.

They did this 2,000 thing last year as well... interesting.. Last year the Dean towards the end of the cycle called a select few and offered them full rides, we shall see if they do that again.

If it makes you feel better, UCLA seems to have shot everyone down (negotiate after deposit deadline), regardless of when they asked.mec896 wrote:Yes I got it too, which infuriates me because they just shot down my request. Pros and cons of this seat deposit incentive. Let's go. Your thoughts?
We are losing a significant amount of leverage though right? But if people know that they are matriculating AND they are happy with what they have, okay to deposit?
For for a person like me, who is uncertain. . . ?

Goddamnit. Why is USC fighting us? It really turns us off. We might go elsewhere if they keep this up.mec896 wrote:The offer is to deposit by 4/3 to get and extra 2k per year. Actually it's just $2k for the first year, not all three.mec896 wrote:The offer is to deposit by 4/3 to get and extra 2k per year. I haven't even asked UCLA yet because of this. I absolutely can't afford them with their current offer, so I'm having a hard time justifying a seat deposit just on the chance that they'll offer me an increase (especially since I'd need a significant increase which seems unlikely). USC/UCLA YOU ARE KILLING ME!Dipper wrote:If it makes you feel better, UCLA seems to have shot everyone down (negotiate after deposit deadline), regardless of when they asked.

Fuck this shit. $2k for the first year? What are they thinking?
Is this $2k negotiable? I'm down to negotiate this up.

If you're happy with your offer then I would absolutely take advantage of it. If they'd made me a worthwhile offer, I'd be all over it.LawsRUs wrote:Pros and cons of this seat deposit incentive. Let's go. Your thoughts?

If you're uncertain, then no way. Don't forget, according to USC's scholarship terms you have to withdraw from other schools once you've paid your seat deposit or else risk losing your scholarship.

I think this incentive really is so they can figure out who wants to go to USC. It gets people to deposit earlier even though their deadline isn't for a month. If 2k isn't enough to make you want to go, don't do it.

(~deletes email about seat deposit initiative~)
Thanks spence and mec. Helpful.

Also, if people know they are coming here AND they are happy with the $ offer, please deposit. TYIA, it'll help us out by a lot.
