How have scholly negotiations gone with USC? I have acceptances in t14 but not as much money as USC has offered, any thoughts on negotiating with the leverage of "hey they didn't give me more money but they are a higher ranked, more national school, so could you [USC] give me more money?" I am prepared, if I go this route, to be told to go F myself.

Re: USC (Gould) c/o 2018
^^ O hello.
Think of it as a balancing act of sounding certain (I really would love to come to 'SC) and hesitant (I won't be able to matriculate with my current offer). I would make it sound less like you're using them as leverage.
Some questions when negotiating:
1. Do you have ties to SoCal?
2. Where is your family?
3. Also highlight the difference in CoA?
4. Why you would like to come to LA?
5. What is it about USC that makes you want to come here?
Fwiw, a lot of people were considering t14s at the reception that I went to.
Also, it's good to know what your #s are worth to them. There's probably a max in merit-aid that they are going to go with you. I would figure out this max, and keep it in mind when you are negotiating.

Definitely worth trying. Had more money from a T14 and USC matched their offer in terms of $ but it was a larger percentage of tuition-not sure but it seems like that indicates they recognize the difference in rankings.WhatCouldHaveBeen wrote:How have scholly negotiations gone with USC? There are about 13-17 people who vote regularly. I'll try to change the polls once everyone has voted. (New poll)
(Past poll results are on pp. 1.)

I wonder if the reason why they are taking a while is due to their preparation for Law Day.lawschool1741 wrote:ETA: more on track for this thread, however, I recently submitted Scholly negotiation request but have yet to hear back. I've seen a few people say same day or 48 hours for response, any one with other experiences?

if we reserve our scholarship, does that mean we can no longer negotiate?

We can still negotiate, but I think we were discussing the implications of that earlier.dustybottoms7 wrote:if we reserve our scholarship, does that mean we can no longer negotiate?

Do you all think we are shooting ourselves in the foot by not reserving it asap, therefore MB doesn't have a good picture of who is seriously considering matriculating she doesn't know how much money there is in the pot for increasing our offers?

Hi everyone! Haven't posted here yet so I thought I'd check in!
I'm in the process of deciding between a half ride to Berkeley and a full ride to USC, but leaning strongly toward USC right now because of personal/family reasons.
Just out of curiosity, anyone looking for a roommate? I'm interested in sharing a two bedroom with someone, ideally in Culver City/Mid Wilshire/Westside or Los Feliz/Silverlake/Downtown.

Oh god, under session #3, it says, "Be sure to read the case and come prepared to participate."
Important: Do not participate. Pls just enjoy the experience.
(wait, is that a class just for 0Ls, or sitting in on an actual class..?)
I think I'm doing #1?, #2D, #3B-Con, #4A. How about you all

AHHH in 24hours I'll be halfway to LA, landing at Houston (stupid layovers).
I'm going to decide on the plane, I have a lot of time, might even read the materials. Only things I know for sure are constitutional law and probably entertainment/IP law clinic, financial aid open house, an probably study abroad open house.
Did you all notice it says BUSINESS CASUAL?! My other ASD this weekend says please wear comfortable clothes.
Laws- they are mock classes, which I interpret as no real students.

Safe travels~~
Also, Law Day will be more enjoyable if we meet up for the same sessions that we plan on doing, so let's.
I guess people could participate then. I was worried there, I thought it was an actual class haha.

I think I will wear whatever that's not displeasing to the eyes, not necessarily biz casual.

I agree with meeting up. Maybe at the morning registration/coffee mingle we can try to find fellow TLSers.
I'll post my planned schedule when I make my final decisions.

Okay sounds good mec. Also I'm going to invite everyone else itt to post too. I noticed that the meet up has to be more organized (probably through pms), or else we won't be able to find one another (which happened to me at another school).
Nooo not the Socratic Method. Not the cold calls. That would actually be cruel. It would effectively scare away students hahaha.

Why do all the session 1 programs suck compared to the others?! There are multiple I want to see from 2 and 4. Ugh.

+1 on session 1. Our career goals will probably change once we are in law school, so why do we have to pick one of these. It's not only a USC thing tho--a similar experience at another school.mec896 wrote:Why do all the session 1 programs suck compared to the others?! There are multiple I want to see from 2 and 4. Ugh.
