Re: Senioritis / Quitting-my-job-soon-iorits
I'm not totally sure how to react to this but I'll give it a go. People who have earned enough to be able to take three months off without help are impressive and should be proud of being able to swing that. IDK exactly what nerve I somehow just hit whether there is some guilt or shame involved or whatever - but everyone in this thread is sympathetic and understanding, and please calm down. I made a very general statement about the timing; it makes sense for recent grads to be making a move right now because this is around where year-long leases would end. Those who have been out 3+ years obviously are different, and probably should know better by now than to flip out at something this stupid

Actually yeah it hits a nerve because people make so many assumptions throughout this process, including admissions offices and financial aid offices and, yes, TLS. Like I had to fight a certain school for literally six weeks to receive a waiver on the parental information requirement for financial aid, and then when I made the mistake of referencing that on TLS, dipshits start PMing me asking how "easy" it was and how "lucky" I am. So yeah, my nerves are a little frayed.

I think I'm going to spend all day looking at apartment ads/deciding where to live. That counts as work, right?

I'd say so. This particular thread is a detriment to my already dwindling desire to show up to work every day. I found the combination of working a night shift last night + reading of everyone's unemployed happiness to be especially discouraging. We are all reinforcing each other to do absolutely nothing and I love you all for that lol.

boss dumped this one on us today

the worst part is that everyone feels the need to reply all about how hilarious it isA little known fact is that back in 1912, Hellmann’s mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico but as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York.
The ship hit an iceberg and sank and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course as Sinko de Mayo

I'm really bad about remembering to hit reply all when I should. I end up cutting people out of email chains a lot.

it's a miracle you didn't quit your job on the spot. I'd even argue that you have a workman's comp case for pain and suffering.

Re: Senioritis / Quitting-my-job-soon-iorits
I'm sure this has been covered many years past, but hoping to somewhat ease my money woes with y'alls consolations.
I've been working for a year *trying* to save money for law school. I lived in a pretty expensive 1 bedroom apt in Palm Beach, FL (only because I was too far from home and had minimal options to choose a home 2 weeks before my job started). I managed to save in total only about $7,000 for law school and I'm starting to get anxious with all the expenses coming -- deposits, moving fees, new laptop, etc.
Sigh -- I guess I just want to know if anyone is in the same boat as me. I really congratulate those who have saved enough to basically take the summer off without mommy and daddy's help... Unfortunately, I am one of those who will be living at home for about a month expense free.

I need something to do.
I've settled on a school and found a house. Searched craigs for furniture, tvs, and gun safes, didn't find anything I wanted.
Work is slow and I try to only watch shows if I'm also making maps.

go back to your tumblr grottoWahrheit wrote:
This is legitimately something that could (should) be reported to HR, though. Equating the history of the holiday to a dumb joke about the Titanic and mayonnaise... come on. The actual celebration is about the Battle of Puebla, where the Mexicans held off a way bigger French force.
Yes, yes, taking things too seriously... this is just one of the holidays that gets made fun of way too much, and it bothers me how willfully ignorant people are about it.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
