Congrats again to our new arrivals. I was beginning to wonder when more folks would start showing up.

Currently I am most stressed about securing housing in NH. I guess I'm just going to default to the towers. Does anyone else have ideas about this, or is it too early to care?

Check out Elm Campus Partners. They have places downtown that are cheaper than the towers (or they did last time I checked, idk how fast they are going). Plus they are owned by Yale so you know your landlord is legit.

I'm official! Withdrew my other apps today and mailed my deposit. :)

Currently debating on whether to attend ASP... I'll be moving to New Haven 1-3 weeks before school starts, so I'm thinking I'll get the value of exploring New Haven/YLS then...

I am completely torn at this point and really don't know how I am going to make a decision by the Ruby deadline (April 14th). Feel free to PM.

Also, since I haven't said this already, you all seem awesome and I hope I get to know you next year!

I'm very curious about this as well!

Just wondering where people are staying during ASW?

I'm wondering if any current students could comment on living in the graduate dorms 1L. I lived in a dorm room for all 4 years of undergrad and really don't mind having a small/dingy living space and a common bathroom/kitchen. The dorms also seem like a more budget friendly option (especially since you are only paying for 10 months--as opposed to a full year lease). BUT I have heard that very few law students live in the dorms, and I'm wondering if there is any stigma around them. (i.e. Would living in the dorms isolate you from external social gatherings?)

Thanks in advance for any and all insights!

I'm coming with my SO, so we're staying in a hotel. I imagine a number of people stay with student hosts, though.

+1 coming with my SO, although staying in an Airbnb.

Hi everyone. Checking in! Pretty sure I'm coming here, but still a little torn about the Ruby, especially because the Ruby deadline is before Yale's ASW.

I don't know anything specific about the Ruby, but perhaps you could ask Chicago to extend the deadline so that you could go to ASP first? That seems reasonable to me at least...

Checking in. Anyone have success pushing those pre-ASP scholly deadlines past the weekend? Trying to check out Y&H before making a final decision.

I only vaguely remember one person living in the dorms; however, there is certainly no stigma around them. I would, however, take into account several factors.

First, there are some decent deals around New Haven (but yes, you have to search to find them). One such place (where my girlfriend lived and thus my familiarity) is on the corner of Hamilton and Chapel. It is a great spot in Wooster Square, has parking, and the apartments there were amazing and relatively inexpensive (my gf was on a teacher salary). I personally had great luck with my landlord at The Kelly House; however, the apartments in there are rented by an amalgam of landlords and thus you really catch the luck of the draw. Feel free to PM me for his name/email address.

Secondly, it is relatively easy to sublet your place over the summer (if your lease allows this) with so many research students coming solely for the summer months. Furthermore, consider subletting your apartment during graduation weekend (for undergraduates). It is a madhouse there and a relatively easy way to make a little cash and subsidize your rent.

All in all, I don't think there would be a stigma living at any accommodation. The law school is a diverse place and everyone has different budgets and is comfortable with different things. One positive of dorm housing is proximity (yay for short walks on snow days!). But others may view such living conditions as having a host of other negatives. In other words, if its what you want, go for it! No one will care.

(please excuse any spelling/grammar mistakes--at the office and not too much time to spell check)
