You're thinking Shooters. Satisfaction is a pretty chill bar across the street from Alivia's.

Damned 's' words. Well, case in point to my bolded

Edit: I'm going to edit it, just so I don't confuse anyone.

Haha, this makes more sense.

Just checked gas prices at the Durham Costco for shits...insanely cheap

Also, are there normally a good amount of 1Ls at Garrett West? Or does Pinnacle Ridge pretty much take the cake if you want to live around other 1Ls?

Pinnacle definitely has more, but at least based on this year, Garrett has enough that you could put a group together. Probably 10-20 people?

Well that would certainly explain why I can't find one!

Anybody know what the Tmobile coverage is like in Durham? I'm looking to switch from ATT soon but I don't wanna get there and find out duke is a dead zone.

So what I'm gathering is that a carrier pigeon is more effective than any phone providers in Durham.

Google yields no results on carrier pigeons in Durham. There are some in west Texas, however, but that may take quite a while. Let's go with cell phone providers are marginally more effective than carrier pigeons in Durham.

I'll be coming in from Texas, so I can just take a little detour to pick them up, no biggie.

Thanks for the tip! Would love to hear good food options. Went to Satisfaction while I was there visiting. Very good pizza.

There are too many places to name, but common recommendations (including some others have already posted) include Dame's, Q-Shack, Nana's, Nanataco, Monut's & Rise (both biscuit/donut places), Foster's (for brunch), and the Pit. Tobacco Road, which I think those of you who went to ASW got to see, has great food that I never actually see recommended (the Georgia Peach BBQ Chicken and Hurricane Tomato & Avocado Sandwich are my personal favorites).

Monuts is delicious! Geer Street Garden is also really good and had a cheap Sunday brunch. Cosmic Cantina is great too if you want very cheap but good Mexican. Bull McCabe's and the Federal are two of my favorite pubs.

Sorry if this makes me a troll since I'm a WLer (but hopeful!) but this seems like the right place to ask :

What's up with Duke's amazing % of students who get some form of scholarship/merit/need aid/grants/etc., whatever you wanna call it? I saw 85% in one place and 84% and 86% in another. Below is one comparison from another thread, I think it's a year old but you get the point. I've also heard anecdotally that it's quite common for even those getting in off PR and WL to get some $$ at duke (and of course I'm hoping that's the case given that's my personal situation!!).

In short, why is Duke so awesome? Are they filthy rich? Do they give out smaller amounts to more people? I'm dying to know why this is the case, and I also think it's interesting this isn't more vocally mentioned in general when Duke law comes up. This seems to me an amazing selling point and a great reflection on Duke Law overall.

(Note: I think the below is a year old, would love updates # if anyone has them)

Students Receiving Grants
1. Duke 85.3%
2. Michigan 71.9%
3. Chicago 64.3%
4. Yale 57.6%
5. Berkeley 57.6%
6. Stanford 53.6%
7. Penn 48.6%
8. Cornell 47.7%
9. Harvard 47.5%
10. Columbia 45.7%
11. Northwestern 39.7%
12. UVA 37.2%
13. NYU 37.1%
14. Georgetown 33.2%

Was on PR, got just as much $ as my highest T14 offer. They do seem to be generous with $. Maybe they just don't give out as many large scholarships? idk. I would follow Mack's advice and check out median grant awarded. Could be that most people are receiving a very small grant.

the school does have great resources (just compare endowments across schools, Duke's is right up there with most of them). but I think that the real key is their small class size. they can afford to be more generous because they have fewer people to hand money out to in the first place
