Also, assuming we all have the same 3 page letter, the $ amount right before the tuition grant is the scholarship award irrespective of federal loans right? Like even if we decide not to take out a federal loan that tuition grant is still ours?
also curious about this.

My letter says that "the grant ... is based on expected borrowing of at least ... dollars". Does it mean that we have to obtain the loan in order to get the grant?

Columbia wouldn't bump me above 40k, which isn't too surprising.

With that, I'm out. Good luck everyone.

Hey any ideas on whether its better to apply for law school housing or Columbia housing if I'm looking for a single? Sounds like the singles are relatively hard to get.

I'm also still waiting; really frustrated because Columbia is my top choice but it looks like I'm gonna have to withdraw because of this.

Yes,

There is an application on the accepted students site

You also need to fill out Need Access and FASFA and submit tax returns for you and your parents.

thanks, i know that Need Access can be completed online, and FASFA is not required for international students, so I will mail them a completed financial aid questionnaire and copies of tax returns? this seems very confusing tho

All aid that's not a named scholarship is considered "need-based" aid by Columbia. It's not actually all awarded on the basis of need, but it means that if you want to be considered you have to go through the whole complicated process.

Is there any international student who heard about the need-based grant?
It's so hard to reach Columbia FAO that it's frustrating...
I've been spamming them for about a month and they ignored all of my e-mails.. :(
